...as you can see: Scotland hates me. Scorching weather for 3 days straight. As soon as my base goes in... rain. Just need to let the bastid set for a few days and then see how bad it is. No major rain, just drizzle. No pock marks that i could see, but still... meh!

This is true. Its cool and overcast so perfect setting weather. Just the rain that is the irritance.

Sunny weekend? Time for a total design change.... Decided to have my access to the garage from the rear rather than the front. This should give me some retention of a garden without a massive drive cutting through it, plus the current driveway entrance is a fairly steep drop and far from idea. Time for a fresh start! Cue some old school hand tools: Going to have to take that fence down, but luckily the wind has done half of it already. Stunned at the amount of nonsense i've found buried under there. Most infuriating has been a chicken wire fence of some heavy industrial gauge, used to wrap up boulders, then buried under 3' of earth. Great!! This is where the excess soil is going. There has always been a flat spot in the lawn here that goes a little swampy when it rains (which is always) so decided to level out the field a bit. This was the total progress on Saturday. On to Sunday! This is the view from the street. as you can see the dig out is considerably lower than street level, but this is to allow a hefty hardcore layer to bring it up to level. Luckily the base and the road are on almost the same plane. Starting to take shape now. Been sifting out the smaller rocks and laying them down for the hardcore. Still got 2 foot to go to meet the street, and take down the last of the fence. Essentially i need to ensure that i can get one car through here nad in to the garage in time for the build completion, which will be one week from now. And when i say hardcore, i mean hardcore... This is the rock excess i cave managed to extract so far, filed in the other part of the garden for future use. And this is the total soil, as used for raising the remaining garden. The soul destroying part of all this is that this is so far only one driveway. There are 2 doors to this garage.....

After the back breaking work at the weekend, I felt the need to take it easy tonight. Just a little bit of pick axe action then!! Fence - BEGONE! Well, it looked easy, but that bloody corner post was pretty well anchored. Took a lot of persuasion to haul it out! But out it came. Looking from the street there is now plenty of access on this side for a car. Just need to flatten out the last of the mound where that grass is to a flat level, then throw in some hardcore. And as backwards as it seems, with the corner post now gone the remaining fence is pretty shonky, so at the risk of the rest of it blowing down before I take it down I've lashed it to the big tree. Just to protect the neighbours cars.

Feels like the great escape. The freedom of the road getting closer by the day. Mind you, so is a slipped disc....

Great progress there mate.
Are you going to create access into the back yard, around the side of the garage, for trailers, bikes etc ? Or just use the front side gate for occasional access ?

Well the new access is the back of the yard, with 2 drives heading straight into the garage. The original drive will be retained for now allowing back garden access, but plans for the back garden are so far into the distance that i haven't thought abut it yet!

Day 8 in a row of solid post work graft. Feels like I'm in a chain gang. Had some drama with the suppliers of the garage who are building the frame up as part of the supply contract. Essentially they were due on Monday but due to me swapping the garage around 180 degrees to face the end of the garden, they have postponed it until Wednesday "to allow me time to clear enough room for both doors to open". Utter nonsense as a) there was enough room already, they are up and over doors, and b) have you seen me dig??? To prove the point, i abandoned the remainder of the drive.... well, i did a wee bit yesterday.... Not really visible on the above picture, but.... ...i got things a couple of foot closer to the road. The rest of my time tonight was taken doing this: To the outlined spec from the supplier. 1m of clearance for all of the door to driveway 2. Managed to get half of the distance needed done, about 8' from the end of the garage to the middle. I'd say i have another 7' to go tonight, proving to a conclusive level that my supplier is a bawbag, and there would, as vehemently stated, be plenty of room to finalise the build on Monday as originally planned. All in, its a 2 day delay to the final build. That should give me time to finalise driveway 1 to a flat and usable level, and maybe make a start on driveway 2 as well...

Every day I'm shovellin... Feels like I'm never going to reach this road. There is nothing but compacted rock under this last bit of hill too. Infuriating progress, but should be done tonight. I plan on taking it levelled and to where the fence post is. Most of the effort has been spent on: Finishing the clearance for the second door. Should be on good shape for the build starting.... tomorrow!

Last minute tidy up last night. Sweeping! Builders are due today to complete. Looks ready to go to me! But its dusty as hell. Will need to PVA seal the base as soon as the roof goes on. Tidied up my big pile of hardcore. Nice clean edge around all the base... So thats where we are at. Fingers crossed I should have a decent pic for tonight! I also finished taking Driveway 1 to the roadside, and widened it a bit. Ended up gassing to a neighbour and forgot to take a pic though... Ooooh, exciting!

Heres that picture of the finished drive dig out from a few days ago. No progress tonight on my end as there were too many people in the way!! Yup. Its getting put together!! South wall with the windows! West facing front access. Get the sunset for that post-graft beer! Still got a lot of digging to do.... Looking into the garage, facing east. Plenty of room i think. Looking in from the current access route. The garage should be finalised tonight...

How are you going to fit a 2 post hoist in that thing? The roof looks too low.

I'll find a way... More progress last night: doors on! But pretty dark inside now. Will need to get some decent lights up here quick! Impressed with the roof supports. The main spars are steel box section rather than angle bar. Still, don't see me hauling engines out with it... The doors are pretty compact too, using all the available room up to the spar to open. I think I'll need to be creative with lighting at this end of the garage. With both doors open i have enough light to get by with at the front of the garage. Will keep me going until the power is sorted. Gratuitous roof shot. Doors closed. Now that the wood is removed from the edge i can sort the drainage an sort a temporary slope up to door #1. That will get me the first car in!! The rear. Now that its all done i can think about having a garden again. Up next for me will be sorting power, and that will be a rather high priority. In the meantime i am... well... broke. I could probably stretch to some PVA sealer to sort the concrete dust situation this month, and probably start the trench needed for running power from the house to the garage....

Really been enjoying this garage build, you're certainly putting in the hard graft!! Regarding the floor, I managed to pick up some cheap floor paint from Aldi and used that to seal my floor, has been fantastic.

Cheers guys. Some epic progress this weekend! Garage build has been completed. Well, the assembly part at least. Builders have now foxtrot oscared so i can get on with the rest of the stuff. First on the list was the second driveway. Slow start for me on my own... but it gave me the chance to roll in my first wheel on the new garage! All the soil removed from Driveway 2 will be used to raise the level f the original driveway next tot he house (and the old wooden garage). This has been a major irritance for me, and always looked half finished and scabby to me... I've raked back all the old stones from the original drive. These are being re-used here... Free edging for the garage. Will try and make this around the sides and rear of the garage. The front will have a different drainage sluice. More digging and i quickly hit a snag. Some of the nonsense i have found buried down this end of the garden has been annoying. Wire fences bound around boulders for instance. This excavation has taken the biscuit... Any ideas? Then next to it i uncovered this... No? Ok, let me dig out some more... Yup! A feckin Mini. Rear subframe and middle section. A few neighbours have cited that its probably been there for over 30 years. That will explain why someone has chopped and buried a SERIES ONE mini. Check the door hinges. If only they knew back then eh? With that out the way, i cracked on chasing the road. got as far as this: Both driveways linked with an access route... And looking in from the street. I had feared that this would be a steep slope, but if i start the descent from the road rather than the fence-line i was originally plotting from, it should be fairly shallow... Looking towards driveway 1 from driveway 2. Fingers crossed i shouldn't have to rip out that tree. It provides a nice shade and I've grown quite attached to it. Plus I've murdered 4 trees already with building this garage, i really want to save it. If there are no routes interfering with Driveway 2 then i cant see why it should go. Oh, i nearly fogrot. I achieved one other thing this weekend. The Camaro and the MR2 are now in! Its christened!
