My word that looks great... I've never really thought of these as a classic/retro but it is quite clear that they are and they really look the business! I really do like the proto-iPod thing on the rear parcel shelf, what a great little touch That Audi will look spot on after a bit of belt-and-braces buffing to shine it up and get it looking showroom fresh... What plans do you have for it?! Good luck with it, I look forward to keeping track of progress...

You answered your own question before you asked it mate. I'm simply going to keep this one as good as I can get it looking without modification. I'm not fully loving the wheel design to be frank, but they suit the 'package' as they are. Can't wait to clay and polish her.

The alck of interest in this made me laugh, then think a bit.
Since the opening post on Feb 25th, there have been a mere 263 views. Normally on RR, a thread can get that many views in a few hours, and I was wondering why.
No "I had a couple of these 20 years ago" or "My dad had one..." posts. Are these B3 Audi's unloved? Unwanted? Or is it that the thread just slid under the radar? Tell me the truth guys. I can take it! lol

I like it too, must of missed it before now. I like the plans you have for it, nice clean and simple. Too many half decent cars on here get slammed and fitted with wheels which are massively wide and then have the arches butchered to make them fit. Shame. Any pics of it since it's been cleaned up?

Thanks for the feedback chaps.
@ Captain: I wouldn't take anything to heart bud. Was just wondering if there was a reason why people seemed uninterested.
@ mk2polo: The slamming of old school motors, especially German stuff, is just not my bag. It's all a bit predictable to me. I much prefer the factory fresh look. I haven't really done anything to the 80 yet, as it hasn't been on the road and driven yet. I'll be in plaster for three months from next week as well, so it'll be a while yet until anything happens. I am planning on using it as my daily from September when I relocate to Teesside.

I worked on these when they were new (blimey, that makes me feel old !!!) I really liked these as they drove really well and the Quattro version was especially nice. The Managing Director of the dealership i worked at had one, Metallic black and very quick. A blast from my past and a lovely example. Be proud to own this.

I like this too - looks more modern than a car that came out in '89 if you get what I mean. Stereo is a nice feature. I'd be itching to get that drivers seat cleaned though....

In all honesty, I look on the RR section but tend not to comment very often. I love old Audis, I had an 80 Coupe myself, lovely, solid motors. I like the wheels, I'd keep them and refurb them. Your plans are spot-on IMO. Give the interior a good clean then I'd go for a bit of lowerage and colour code the bottoms of the bumpers (I'd leave the top bit's black) Doesn't need anything daft doinf to it to make it stand out

@ Steve900: I know what you mean about it not having a retro look, and the design hiding it's 24 years well. To be honest, the B3 design came out in 1986, so it's a look that's 27 years old! Maybe the fact that there are lots of similarities with the B4 which went on until 1996 also help. There are Maestros, Montegos, Mini Metros, Vauxhall Senators and Carltons, Ford Sierras etc etc that were built years after the Audi B3, but they are seen instantly as retro whereas this doesn't seem to be. @ captain: Sain black? Doubt it. Pimpwagon? Doubt it even more lol @ Jizmondo: I'm in two minds about the wheels. They do sit well, and would look good after a refurb, like on this 90... ...but I also think some nice 5 or 6 spokers would look good... @ polo6N: Not from Oldham mate. It's been in SE Northumberland since 1999

I had a 1986 B3 90E (one of the first ones) with the 2.2L 5 cylinder for many years and it was a cracking car. Effortlessly quick, reasonaly frugal and made a nice noise. Yours looks to have had many of the 90 extras added as the 1.8S was normally the basic one. The coloured insert including lights on the bootlid are a 90 feature and I'm pretty sure the velour interior has been rescued from a 90 too. Mine also had that weird gizmo on the parcel shelf but I never worked out what it was for (not headphone sockets!).
They benefit from being lowered (though not too much) as it cures them of raising that long bonnet to the sky when you hoof it (possibly less of a problem with the 1.8 car engine I guess). They eat front wishbone bushes for fun too, which leads to rather unpleasant handling.
I like the wheels you have on it. Also from the donor 90 I'd guess. Available in 14" and 15" form. Easy to clean and refurb too.
Cheers
Nick

Thanks Nick.
Not knowing these very well, I didn't realise that it had had some 90 parts donated at some point. Interesting.
