Right thought i better pull my finger out and update this thread , seeing as I've been excepted for the hill climb next weekend ! Its been a tough year for me as we found out my dad had cancer earlier in the year and they couldn't do anything for him so have done some bits to the car in between helping my mum look after him, he passed away a few weeks back now and i'm gutted but he didn't suffer and was for the best coz he only would of got a lot worse , working on my Datsun now has helped a lot to keep my mind busy and a good bit of therapy to be honest , also now being accepted for the hill climb it will push me to finish some other bits off to , as always photos speak a thousand words so here goes , there's gonna be a lot there's a bit to catch up on ! Designing and building the new cold feed air box , aim was to get it see through, so i could see the titanium trumpets i made last year , I did look at some others to get a rough idea but then done some CFD work and played around with the design to get it all to flow better, CAD rendering CFD work mould making first prototype The base plate , get claped to the cars by the trumpets, fits test fit

I found a 2+2 260z listed on ebay in Swansea , So i went to have a look , it was pretty rotten and had already sold , but i helped the guy out with pricing some stuff and he rang me a few weeks later to say he had found some bits in the garage, Turns out it was a NOS close ratio box that his father in law bought as a spare in the 80's, I took it apart to check as i always take these story's with a pinch of salt, But this time it was true ! Porsche steel synchro's instead of brass Nissan ones also a NOS front euro lip , that was still rubbery , they usually go hard and crack,

I still running a standard euro 5 speed in the car now , so do i fit the close ratio box or fit the S13 box that i have now rebuilt with new bearings, machined up a Datsun bell housing and got all the bits ready for the conversion, Goinh through the box and fitting new bearings etc A Techno Toy Tuning gearbox mount for the conversion machined 4 speed bell housing All painted up and ready to go still need to shorten a prop shaft for the conversion but i also have brought a carbon RX8 prop to try and see if it will work, I may sling the close ratio box in for a while before the S13 just to give it a go,

Sorry to hear of your loss dude. We can all attest to the therapy and meditation working on a car can give you, and it looks like it's worked well for you. The results speak for themselves.

I took one of my seats apart to re-trim it , always thought my interior was to dark as everything is black in there, So wanted to add a bit of color into it and I have always liked the tartan Porsche seats, First seat is done even made some badges out of thin copper plate on the new water jet in work , its all practice , now to un-stitch the other seat and do it all over again.

quick brake update, Although the skyline brakes are awesome , when I need new disc's I need to modify them before they even fit, by machining out the center etc , so I've managed to find a wilwood disc that's not far off the same size, with better cooling and the added bonus of saving a bit of un-sprung weight to boot, I designed and made a bell for it to bolt straight up to the Datsun hub, test fit looked OK, so did some nice grooves in them , now need to wait for the salt to go so I can get out and test them, The air box is coming together as well with a couple of bits ordered to make it all work better and look a bit neater

Hope lockdown is treating everyone ok , I have pretty much finished all those little jobs around the house , redone my camper van , done the garden etc So when an old thread came up on here the other day if twin cam RB head fit on L-gata engine's it got me thinking , Found one on eBay just up the road and made a cheeky offer and it was mine , turns out he was very fed up with time wasters and knew my car , so was happy for me to have it for pretty cheap, I have a spare L24 with the head off in my workshop and looks like I'm not going back to work for another 3 weeks so can have a look at mocking it up and work out a plan, Anyways here it is RB20DET head Comes with cam's , rocker covers and even an old head gasket , put the L-series gasket up to it last night and head bolts line up and combustion chambers to , oil drain isn't far off but not sure about the head oil feed , gonna clean it up today and get the L24 block on the engine stand, Here is the E88 with the RB head gasket on it, Been doing some reading and found some YouTube videos featuring cars in Japan with RB heads , not sure how to overcome the cam drive problem yet , convert the head to chain or convert the L-series to belt ? Either way its should give me something to do over the next few weeks and a bit on an engineering challenge to keep me busy, Plan is run some DCOE's for now maybe ITB's later , I did find a adaptor plate that allows Mikuni's to bolt up to the inlet manifold, So if anyone has links or anything that could help just post them up , all help appreciated ,

here's what I have worked out so far ,
The engine image is there just to give me a idea of where it all sits , Sprockets are all modeled to correct sizes and tooth number , so the cam crankshaft ratio is correct , Hopefully I can use the L-gata chain tensioner and just modify the guides for the bottom chain , with this design it all stays within the standard from cover , and steps out to the RB cams above so I can then build a bespoke cover that incorporates guides/tensioner or pick up some of the holes used on the RB head for that, I would usually 3D scan all this in and work from there but working from home has its downfalls , I have got access to a lathe so maybe next week I can turn some bits up once I have had a look at bearing sizes etc and worked out what will fit, but I do need to mill the head a bit and TiG in the mount but will see how far I can get ,
Good thing with SolidWorks I can get chain lengths off it, So I can have a look and see if there is some thing available all ready out there that works,

Bit more done on the RB-L engine I cut up a RB inlet manifold yesterday , I'm going to bolt it up to the bed on the miller when i go back to work and mill it flat and then cut out some DCOE flanges on the water jet and Tig them on but give me some idea of how long the inlet side will be and how much clearance i will have to the inner wing, Hole centres between carb and inlet aren't that far off to wont be that much porting needed,
