Yesterday was a very exciting day for me. My first ever classic car... finely!! Ever since i can remember i wanted a red mk3 Escort and now due to getting a decent job touring for a year or so, I wont need my car to drive to gigs in all the time! (already killed one Escort doing that) Its definitely got that first car feel down. between the other cars i've owned you can tell its a car designed in the late 70s and made in the 80s. Its a 1.1 popular... so its not very fast, but it got up to 80 and wasnt that bone shaking! good on juice too! So far better than my 1.4 Focus. It'll be staying standard or fairly standard while its mine... no engine changes or 90s style big bore exhausts. although i would like to change the stereo for a cassette version! and maybe speakers in the footwell rather than that one speaker in the middle of the dashboard! Just happy to have it... heres some pictures. (i'll get some ones out of the drive soon) Hope ya'll like it!

Wow, very clean. Unless these pics were taken in the mid 90s...

Nice! That looks like a really well preserved example. Those 1.1's are amazingly good on juice.
I'd get a Disclok for it - I know it's no performance car but Escorts are ridiculously easy to steal, either for a free ride home and torched afterwards, or a nice clean 3-dr shell to sell on.

Thats great I'm sure i could do with a couple of things for it. yeah waxoyl is something I'm thinking of. The arches are amazing too (not sure if they have been replaced). I think it has had the underneath done with something... i'm going to check it out tomorrow, just been driving it around a bit today.
its had 3 owners. The garage guy said the last owner was 70 and had been doing it up... duno what he did though. Its had about 18 service stamps to and its done 25000 miles.

There's something very satisfying about base model cars, they are just more likable than all the exotic models. Love it.

Very nice and clean and rare too considering the model. Nice find. Even has the blsnk in place for the cigarette lighter! ;D
You may find some of the content of my website usefull, though more for information rather than modifications if you are wanting to keep it standard (which I think I would).
I may still have a period Ford tape deck, I'll have a look.

Oh, get some decent polish on the paint with the repellent finish to seal the old paint. If Id have done that with my Cortina when I first got it it might not have broken out in acne by the following year.

Thanks for the advice Smiler! let me know about the tape deck. I was considering just putting one of the 90s tape decks in it (used to have a 1995 escort) as they are only £10 and would get me going... not sure if it'll fit though. Something really cool about the radio thats in it though. everything sounds like 80s that comes through that speaker!
I've been lurking on here for a couple of years waiting for one of these, so very excited to become a part of the classic car community.
I think its been waxed already as it very smooth to the touch... i do need to keep on top of it though

Are they Mk3 Fiesta steels? I don't remember Escorts having those wheels fitted as standard, and I can't recall the last time I saw a base model example let alone one that tidy.

I thought you might like it, i remember the other year when you bought that one. Very proud of it! Once i saw it i had to buy it, cant resist red mk3s.
At some point i'll get some more wheels for it. I guess they'll do for the moment. My dad used to have one like yours and i remember the wheels from back in the day... plus the one in the boot is like that.
the 1.1 doesn't half pull! always wanted the 1.3 as i thought the 1.1 would be unbearable! Does alright though!

everything sounds like 80s that comes through that speaker! Tuned to Radio 2 then? That's really nice, such a very grey and nice place to sit.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.
