A lot of people on the Triumph forums I visit have said that the rotor arms available now can cause misfires. It always used to be best to buy genuine Lucas ones but now there seems to be a red coloured one (non Lucas) that fixes the problem. Not sure about the make but a read through a few posts on the Club Triumph website might be of help. The rear suspension might benefit by using longer late Spitfire driveshafts and a swing spring if it hasn't already got one. I think Triumph made Spitfires better by fitting quite stiff rear springs that were re-cambered to give slight negative camber on the rear wheels, this prevented too much negative camber and also stopped the rear wheels going to positive camber when cornering hard.
Hope you get it running a bit better.

still not running I have a friend going to come round to help set them up. Not sure when he will come over but at least we will get there. I have heard about the red coloured rotor arm which I have fitted. The rear suspension is one job I need to sort I think it looks too low and the exhaust does bottom out. I will have to measure my driveshafts to see which ones I have when I brought the car from my friend he had the suspension and diff fitted and I don't think they came from the same car but lets get it running first!!!

had a good weekend on the Berretta last weekend I when to start the car but it would start unless I sprayed fuel into the carbs but now i'm nearly there on the running issues. Found the fuel pump was weak fitted new one now starts and runs and is drivable. Now need to re-set up the carbs again. I have fitted spacers on the rear spring only to find that it didn't make any difference to the ride height back to the drawing board on that one but at least I can drive it again

Still didn't want to start well and performance wasn't good so gave my car to my friends garage to get it to running right finally got it back now, It now runs a lot better and has a bit of power when driving still ticks over fast. Hope to go to my first show this year at the weekend!!! I know we are in August but with all the problems I have had I haven't trusted it to get me anywhere

Def keep the twin SUs, they look so much better! I had twin SUs on one of my Triumphs and it never ran right. It turned out that the little hose from the float to the jet was clogged on one carb. Took ages to find that one.

nice clean car ready for the Family day at Shooting Star Chase Hospice. Had a great day with some good comments about the car and the best part was putting smiles on the children's faces because they could get in and out of the cars and play with the horns

Got the car back together today after our little set back bolting the manifolds back on the car the exhaust manifold cracked when stripping it down I noticed a bolt which had been fitted to the manifold where the inlet should rest (I will take a picture)must of twisted the manifold. Started the car it now runs smooth and how it should and that's before we set the carbs probably. Also as the was in the workshop I have completed lots of extra jobs replaced the front pads fitted led dash bulbs fitted led rear lamps replaced rear wheel arch wiring made brackets to support the front wings
Hoping to drive the car home this weekend and I can't wait I have been waiting years to have the car running right

all went well until on the motorway the rad cap decided to leak and sprayed coolant out of the louvres and on to the windscreen got home without over heating will order a new cap tomorrow. on the good side the car ran great!!!

Looks lovely, glad your getting it out. Just a quick question, do you not need to have working wipers for MOT? or is there a way around it?

Looks lovely, glad your getting it out. Just a quick question, do you not need to have working wipers for MOT? or is there a way around it? I don't need wipers for the mot as the windscreen flips down at the moment I have a Perspex screen but when I get a glass screen made for it I will add wipers Not sure what wiper system I will use any ideas welcome also does anyone know a good company to make the windscreen to go in the frame in the picture

Any glazier should be cable to cut you a flat screen out of laminated glass, for the wipers take a look a car builder solutions or europa, this type of vehicle would have traditionaly have had a motor mounted on the top of the screen you can get ones meant for boats quite cheaply on ebay.

Car still losing coolant if I go between 60 -70 mph I think its a head gasket on the way out. Need to do a sniff test on the rad to see if I'm getting gases in the coolant. If not I will change the thermostat and look at the water pump. But on the good side of things I now have a proper glass windscreen so another job on the list completed.
It will be a little while before I can get out and enjoy the car as I have just come out of hospital after having a major back operation. This is when its becomes hard as I don't always get time to play on my projects due to family and work. Now I have the time but cant move or lift anything all I can do is look out of the window and think of what I can do!!!

I once had a pinhole in a rad hose that only showed up when the engine was reved, never at idle. Took a while to figure out

Question for all you suspension wizards out there. As you can see looking at the back of my Burlington it sits too low. I have replaced the transverse spring I did have an Herald one but now have Spitfire one as I was told it would make the car sit higher without making it too stiff so it wouldn't bounce all over the road. but it made no difference in the ride height. I have tried looking into different set ups on the interweb and thought I could use an adjustable ride and height coil-over set up with the standard suspension. the car is based on a standard herald/spitfire with non-rotoflex suspension.
Any help in this would be greatly received. Not sure if I'm wasting my time and money or would this work
