A small update, We flushed out all the previous bits and dirt from the oil radiator and gave it a quick spray paint including its connecting piping, and then we test fitted the headers to the completed engine, they sure look good tomorrow we'll receive some of the missing parts of the engine bay and hopefully the airbox and on friday we plan to drop the engine and trans in. Keep watching.

We received a bunch of small stuff today including a lot of clamps, bolts and cosmetic stuff like covers and bins etc. New cylinder head side cover, new washer fluid reservoir, and tested a heat shield cleaning on the undercarriage, turned out pretty good, before, after, Just when we were having fun with cleaning, I got a call from post office and this arrived. Wanna guess whats in ? No, it's not a home theater system Finally my CF airbox has arrived and since the engine was in display only mode, we tried it on for wannabe race engine look It looks all business, best money spent on the engine IMO. That ghetto sticker will come off, don't worry. It will be replaced with a " BMW M Power " sticker. Tomorrow, the engine goes back in super happy !!!

It's been a busy weekend. The engine went in, most of the cabling are done, wheels and calipers are restored. First, we took of all four wheels cuz the lips on the BBS rims had slight clearcoat peeling and scratch marks on the edges. I took them to my wheel guy to have them dismantled and cleaned. He took them apart and cleaned each lip, Inside the rims were filthy, Since the wheels were apart, I decided to polish the lips for a change since my polish guy is awesome, I thought they might look good. Before they came back from the polisher, I found the opportunity of having the calipers and wheel wells out in the open, so I decided a through clean of the area, Front Stoptech BBK Calipers before, They needed major cleaning and some touch up. I emailed Stoptech to ask for their red color code but they said they don't have one and the closer code to their paint was Dodge Viper Red. I found the paint code online and went a paint shop to produce a small amount for touch up. Viper Red, The color seemed too bright for my calipers untill I found out have much filth and dirt was covering the real color of the calipers, so we gave them a nice clean and scrubbing. And after a lot of touch up, here's how they looked,

That is an awesome build so far. Have you seen a doctor about your cleaning OCD?

Then we moved on to the rears, OEM calipers looked worn and the disc base was all rusty, We gave spray black to the calipers and spray silver to disc bases for OEM look, Here they are before, After cleanup and paint, much better, and the next day, my wheel guy called me to check the wheels polished before he mounted the tyres, they looked great After my approval of the splendid work, they went on the car, and finally mu lonw awaited injectors arrived as they were the last missing parts for engine start up, All lined up and installed, That's it for this weekend. Tomorrow, the transmission will go in and mated to the engine. Then there will be some welding on the exhaust as there is a slight line up problem. Later in the week, we plan to start up the engine with CF airbox and continue with ecu mapping for it. Keep watching !

Small update for today, Cleaned up some of the heat shields under the trans, Missing additional fan came and installed, Wheel bolts looked worn and rusty, so a fresh coat of paint helped, and finally the radiator was cleaned, you wouldn't believe the amount of dirt came out of that thing. Just take a look to see the difference, Later on, CF airbox is mounted, Next up, we will finish fabricating some pipes and holes for the airbox and find a suitable air filter for the end of it. I am open to any suggestions. Because of the space limit, it looks like we will have to use a mushroom type unit Tomorrow, we hope to start up the car, fingers crossed

will an E46 airbox not fit? I'm afraid not. They are different engines with different engine bay layouts. Fitment might be a issue.

A small update. We went with HKS type solution for the air filter untill we come up with something neater and more effective. Here's are recent shots of the engine with the airbox and custom lettering applied. (Disregard the blue piping. They will be replaced before we finish things off.) Tomorrow, we'll do the ECU tuning for the airbox and try our first start up.Fingers crossed !

a little update, Replacing the valves cured the noise problem but the idle was still problematic so we calibrated the individual throttle bodies. As it turns out while we dismantled it to clean throughly we over tighten some of the springs so they were not opening evenly hence the rough idle. After a little fine tuning she ran like a champ. Here is a short video of the first start -up, S50 rebuild start-up - YouTubeThen we started reassembling some of the new parts like water bottle, radiator heat shields, o2 sensors, additional fan, bits of interior (center console etc.) airbox in all its glory Later on, we moved on to closing of the disastrous holes of the hood pins. The holes are filled before paint. , With these works, we arrived at the final stage which will include ; adding a cat for comfort ( way too loud now that the turbo is off ) Fine tuning the Alpha N Tuning on the ECU Painting the hood and bumpers ( due to stone chips and aero stuff mount holes ) Reconditoning the interior and adding a few new touches... Aiming to finish all in 2 weeks and then off to break-in drives hopefully. Thanks for watching...

The car was way too loud so installed cats to reduce the noise and it worked like a charm, Now that most of the engine and mechanical stuff out of the way, we switched back to cosmetic part. The bonnet and bumpers are getting ready for clean-up paint. Holes from the hood clips filled and primed, The holes for the hamann aero parts on the rear bumper filled and primed, Licence plate holes filled and bumper fully primed, Tomorrow they all go to paint booth.. Looking forward to final results. Keep watching...

Today the car got out of paint shop, the paint is flawless and the hood looks 10x better without ricer hood pins. Smooth front bumper without licence plate also adds to the clean look. I am very happy with the results. Before paint shots, we took care of tiny details again First, I sanded and waxed the headlights as they were really worn and blurry, Then, I replaced the old looking bumper lights with new ones, old vs new, On the car, Finally replaced the number plate light as it was also pretty discolored and dirty, Old vs. new, New one put in, much better, After these little youth touches, she looked much younger Now that majority of the work is done (engine rebuild, paint, mechanics etc.), it is time for the interior. Tomorrow, I'll drop it to my upholstery guy for a little freshen up and some personal touches We're almost there. Keep watching ...

does that airbox not come with a panel filter that sits next to the throttle bodies inside the airbox like the CSL unit it is based on? and therefor not need a cone filter on the end of the inlet?
(I know there are a myriad of copies of the CSL box out there though so i don't know exactly how they all function)
car looks nice, nice headers and those are some hugely chunky rear tyres!

CSL airbox has a different working system than mine. As you have saide CSL piece has the filter between airbox panels whereas in mine it is a big uninterrupted chamber filtered at its entrance only. This is how BMW motorsport uses on their cars as well. And it is the same system on my E30 M3 cf airbox too. Of course CSL system has ease of filter replacement and placement.

Just got the car back from my upholstery guy. He used his usual tricks and skills to liven up the interior. Instead of retrimming in the interior with new leather and such, we went for restoration route. First, the seats were switched (left to right) so that the entrance bolster were hidden on the other side, then the worn padding got renewed with firm, fresh ones to give extra bit of tight look. Then they were warmed up and weted back to back for a few times. This makes the loose leather stretch back to its original form. Lastly they were washed. Here are the results, During washing, Finished look, Once the rest finished, then came turn for my little personal touches. To keep the black and red theme, I contrast stitched the door grab and center console sides. Door Grabs, and the center console sides, Finally matt painted the airbag, as it was very shiny. Not very clear in this picture but the result is very good. Overall, I am very happy with interior works. Tomorrow will be wheel alignment, quick detail and hopefully final delivery

Very nice! The interior retrim is very professional - looks factory! I really don't like the chrome trim rings in the center console and around the gearstick gaiter, though - it doesn't match any of the matte black surrounds on the buttons.
Always loved this car, such a left-field choice.
