So I took the week off before RRG, and I'm glad I did! Ended up running around like a flee in a fit trying to get bits done!
So I wanted to mix the exhaust up a bit, the car was a little on the quiet side and the stainless steel exhaust was made of fairly shonk materials and had suffered badly in the crash that killed the donor.
So I cut the exhaust up, looked at my bank account and realised I could only really afford the tips. DOH. Commence fixifying the original front box and re-using the centre boxes!
You can see the crash damage, The bottom had cracked and was leaking so that go welded up
I cleared everything off the indestructibench and set myself up to do exhaust fabbing. Its really nice welding at a sensible height, not upside down, well lit!
So on a low budget re-jig I had a look around for suitable pipe. My old bed frame I stashed in the corner looked about right and had WAY better bends than the 'proper' exhaust.
This was an initial mockup, I eventually put a subframe dodge in it so that it could be mounted higher up...
These are the quality of bend on the original!
The 4 bits I did buy, mocked up
Didn't have time to weld them together though.... I had an MOT to get!
PASSED first time! only 4 minor advisories too
Then another one showed up (Mantaphil!)
Note pre-paint arches..... I was still hoping to do some more filling and sanding at this point!
You may of noticed the lack of big wheels also, thats because one wasnt very round. We had tried to be gentle putting it straight, but sadly the buckle was on a really thick part of the wheel. Some MAPP gas and a large hammer later we were pretty much there...
So it was back to making the zoomies...
I was hoping my welding would be up to being left untouched but its not quite there yet, so I flapwheeled it back.
YAY!
All packed up and ready for RRG!
So after an amazing show and great weekend (many thanks to Hotwire and all the organisers/helpers) we drove back 200 miles and parked up at TAB
The difference in wheel colour is due to the amount of oil the Monza likes to feed on!
Yeaaaaaaaaaah
Happy Elk
Monza didnt miss a beat, doesnt seem to be using ALL the oil, did 25mpg over 400ish miles and sounds mental, maybe a little TOO loud, but hey its fun.
Future plans are ride height tweakage, and general tidying, including welding up the hole in the rear valance and MAKING IT LEVEL (the valance that is!)
Thats about it really
