Massive thanks to Pogweasel, Tigran, Keef and his mate Bill as we got the dolly running yesterday, turns out the timing was a little out and the points needed a little bit of attention, the fuel pump needed changing, the carbs needed priming and so on and so on! I really could not of done it without the gentlemens help.
I'm feeling much more possitive about the whole thing now
Oh by the way should an 1850 engine sound like a Top fuel dragster?
pog will post up a vid and pics later on

^video evidence!^ An historic moment as the farker finally coughed and spluttered an popped into life for the first time in twenty years Of course we didn't always get everything right... I went to great pains to put the rotor back in the way it came out... wihich was of course the wrong way round and caused some confusion, A good learning experience for some us too.... setting uo the timing without the aid of timing guns, colourtune etc. Plenty of comedy to be had too as pretty much the whole of the exhaust instantly grenaded itself, most of it ending up a pile of oxide just inside the garage door! Not all that many more jobs to do now either.

The only real sticking point now is sorting out those frickin' wheels.... I thought it would be easy... and indeed the old wheel studs came out 'just like that'.... except the new ones are to long to tuck in 'round the back' without taking the hubs off. Which requires a hub puller. Which we do not have. Bumholes. Rest of it should be staightforward repair / replace affairs.

It's cheating I know, but can you drill a hole in the backplate and put in one at a time (turning the hub between fittings?).

It Lives - In your face Bstardchild! Now I know that was written tongue in check and you didn't realy mean anything by it so I could never take offence. ;D But................ - It's a step in the right direction Russ. (My thanks to your helpers for steering you in the right direction too.) - When it has a MOT, tax and is on the road you will find me very enthusiatic about any of your plans for it

^video evidence!^ An historic moment as the farker finally coughed and spluttered an popped into life for the first time in twenty years looks like you guys had some fun ;D Plenty of comedy to be had too as pretty much the whole of the exhaust instantly grenaded itself, most of it ending up a pile of oxide just inside the garage door! Get the exhust changed and get the engine up to temperature and my money is on the rad and water pump doing the same thing Not all that many more jobs to do now either. That's good news

If youre pulling the half shaft out of the bearing/casing ,you need a slide hammer ,not a puller . This puller wont have anything to hold on to --it has holes in the ends to take studs...

Wahey! Sounds like the downpipe>exhaust or manifold join is blowing heavily - not too difficult to sort - either that or the actual manifold itself is blowing. Could be a holed silencer too - you'll need to sort that out as it'll run like a bag of nails like that and not be able to get it set up well ;D <edit> see you say it grenaded, well, new exhaust time for you then ;D Sounds like it's got a bit of a miss but i'm sure with some further tweaking that'll come good Should idle at ¬850 dead on when it's going good! Time to change the fluids asap and check the head bolt settings before it tears itself to bits

the hubs are separate from the half shafts but there a curse word to get off the taper, probably easier to drill a hole or put the stud at a angle and turn the hub so it pops in did it that way on my marina. ;D congrats on getting it going
