Going to look at. 1990 orion tomorrow for my son. His first car. I phoned the owner and she said it doesn't have power steering? Is that right? No big deal but I thought it would have had.

1990 would make it a mk2 Orion, mk4 escort shape. That won't have power steering.
Rust will be your thing to look for;
Battery tray Fuze box area Inner/outer sills Floors Boot floor
Basically everywhere, taking a jack would help.

Only power steering ever available on this model was aftermarket, never done by Ford. I can fit power steering to these models though with a new electric kit, they drive sooooo nice with it fitted

You neither need nor want power steering on a mk1/2 Orion or mk3/4 Escort. Some where converted to hydraulic power steering back in the day for use as mobility cars I believe but that's a bit different.
If you end up with it, a lot of the information on my website will be applicable so you might find some of it of use.

Why? surely it's up to the individual I used to have the same attitude until I tried one out ;D Maybe that statement did come across a bit strong. It just seems that power steering is fitted to everything now just for the sake of it. I have not try'd a mk3/4 Escort/Orion with power steering, though personally I have no desire to convert my car to it. The Cortina however could benefit from it for lower speed manouvering as the big lump of V6 it now has sat over the front wheels has made the steering rather heavy at parking speeds. I was intending on carrying out an electric column conversion on it but might end up selling it before then to fund a Reliant Scimitar.

Are they a rip off or is that a fair price? I am tempted as both my escorts have heavy steering when parking etc. My mk4 would be great with this kit on but I can live with the rs the way it is as I hardly drive it. I carn't help thinking that the price is inflated and it could be done cheaper.
