Apologies in advance for the mega-post..it's a few months worth...
Here is my current ride, a primera p11 GT - project rat jizz!
Anyone who wandered into our camp at the gathering last year may well be aware of the wonders of rat jizz...it has 3 stages, a flush, followed by ratty man-milk, followed by a seal...turns out this is a real rat jizz car, I need to flush out the previous owners bodges, give it a good seeing to, and then keep it as nice as possible!!!
Onto a more serious note, I have always quite fancied one of these, known for their crisp handling, powerful SR20 engine, and with future plans involving breeding and so on, 5 doors and lots of room!!! Another bonus is they are worth absolute peanuts, I picked this one up for about 600 quid...
The modifications already carried out by the time of purchase were:
JWT S3R camshafts
Stainless cat-back
A/C removed and battery relocated
Slim rad and electric fans
'Open - mouthed' front bumper
Skyline steering wheel
It also came with a set of uprated shocks and springs in the boot.
I picked her up on a dark and rainy day, I wish I had looked over her better at the time but all seemed well, here's some pictures from when I got her home...
It soon became apparent that it wasn't all as peachy as it looked (not that you can whinge with a 600 quid car really) the oil level was low, one of the suspension strut-top bolts had been sheared, there was some rattly trim, a clicky CV, and a few loose ends. And that was just what I could see...eek.
Obviously the weather has been hideous since about last July, but heres a quick sum-up of what I have acheived so far...
First things first was this air filter setup, I wondered how they had fitted the cone, as these as a rule require an adaptor as the end of the MAF is square, unfortunately, rather than spend 10 quid on an adaptor, someone in their infinite wisdom had dremelled the corners off the airflow meter to make it (vaguely) round...doh!!! The pants ebay-spec filter was also rubbing and holed, great.
I ordered a nice new filter, and some pipework to get it sitting down in the inner wing, where the battery would have been...
I had temporarily put on another filter I had laying around, I also moved the fusebox that was rattling around in the wing, and removed the old resonator that stuck up into the wing, which also gave me some nice fresh air holes through to the inner wing / arch liner area...
I teamed this up with a stainless manifold too, it had one of these on before at some point, and the standard item was restricting any extra gasses the uprated cams may be trying to move...
Other little jobs have included sorting the CV joint, rewiring the fans so they actually worked properly, replacing the crankcase breather hose as the old one was perished...
...and replacing the 'screw on' gearknob which had peeled through age, easy job right? No...1 hour of chopping it into bits as it was held on with some kind of crazy space shuttle glue...
So once the weather gets better than this:
Ill fit these:
And enjoy!!!
Only other job in the pipeline is to fit a catch can, unfortunately the biggest problem on the car is I think the rings are on the way out, at wide open throttle she smokes pretty well, so for the minute I am using stop-smoke and crossed fingers, and the catch can will help me recycling so much blow by and fouling plugs etc...
Sorted...lol...
Overall though I would definitly recommend a GT, it pulls like a train, has the comfiest seats I have ever sat in, and handles really nicely.
Well done if you have read this far, future updates will be smaller
Plans are -
Nip any rust in the bud
Good tyres
Fit suspension
Have fun killing the engine rather than nannying it and worrying
Fit new one
Drive more...
