I went to look at a late one for sale once and despite being tidy and low mileage, it had possibly the cheapest, nastiest low buck build quality I've seen. I'd still have bought it had the engine not sounded like it was at deaths door mind. I'd happily have one even if they aren't exactly the pinnacle of manufacturing technology, simply because they are a damned good tool for the job. I'd rather have an early one though. I actually like the way they look too which is a bonus.

they usualy sound bad as the timing chain never get adjusted... 2 minute job!!!! It was the timing chain but it was very bad and it wasn't running well at all despite only having about 30k on the clock. I was buying one for my mum and for what they were asking I wasn't about to be getting my hands dirty right away on it and they wouldn't budge on price so I left it! Before I found another she got a mint old shape Fourtrak instead.

i had one as well, nothin much else will touch it off road in standard form apart form a range rover but they are terrible on road and do break stuff a lot, 4 speed boxes are stronger than 5 speeds and they are dog slow and cramped inside. i'd have another one like a shot though.

Tighten said 13mm cap... SORTED!!!!!

I may have imagined it, but I've got a feeling there were some Nivas' that had the Cit/Pug 1.9 diesel (XUD) engine in them. I guess it could have been an aftermarket conversion. I know I looked at getting one in the late 1980's, but was scared by the sub-30's fuel consumption, that and I'd just bought a house :? There's this: tinyurl.com/294sv6 for £72 and this: tinyurl.com/2auu8wfor nearly £500 on 'bay at the moment.
