The three spoke alloy. Mainstay of the chav "tuning" scene in the mid-nineties and still used by witless morons bolted underneath their mums 1.0 litre Nova. This discerning gentleman is a fine example. No doubt his "ho's" inside his mums Fiat approve of them. [/img] So, will they ever be cool?

I cant see them ever coming back, I'm not sure why they were popular in the first place
I hope modern chrome wheels go the same way

They are well duff, but they wil come round again, in a few years someone will restore a Fiesta turbo or something and apply all the chav tat they can find as an 'historical record', and a set of 3-spokes will be top of their list.
Who is that chav lad? What a flange.

I think the old smooth three spoke rims as pictured above are truly horrible. I don't think they will make a comeback as they just simply don't look good an anything.
THere are some three spoke rims I like. I'd love a set of Advan A3A rims for my Datsun 1200 and I've seen some three spokes used by Japanese tuning companies that look alright.
NOt keen on moderm, monster bling chrome rims, especially on older cars. I think they look fine on something like a modified R34 Skyline but on old stuff they look well out of place.

Most tri-spokes (especially the soft looking ones) are revolting horrible nasty things. Antera Type 121 I think it was, they had a picture of a (surely.... obviously!!!) photoshopped Ferrari 355 with them on it, in their ads during the mid-nineties. As if anyone with a Ferrari would have taste that shocking!!! However, the Advan A3A is a cool retro-rim, especially on TE71/AE86 Toyota's I reckon! And I'm a fan of these later model Advan rims as well I must say, it's all about the JDM look!!! Yeah chrome sucks as well..... I think it's mostly a case of the chrome wheels that are available look like someone vomited on a plate, and then took it to get chrome dipped......

ROTFL @ This thread ;D
The thing is all those awful trends of the yesteryears always get to the point when you look back and they have a nostaligic charm.
Perhaps one day when Darwin effect takes care of things we will have Chav Museums with a wide boy cruise section? Perhaps it would even have a car park floor, smoking oily speed humps and litter all over the floor.
The fact is three spokes deserve respect for how truely bad they are, and exactly how they ever became popular will always remain a mystery. The only other wheel which seems on a par is those kerb-tastic Momo Venom style wheels.

The Saab and Advan style ones I can just about tolerate, even if they're not my thing (cause they don't have eight spokes! ) but the modern chavvy ones I could never like, because I'll always think of neds in their Saxos and poxy Novas, never of tasty real cars.

Hmm, pretty conclusive so far! I can't stand them personally. The Saab ones are ok, and the Advan jobbies - I don't even mind the Range Rover ones! But the smooth blobby things, forget it!
The tool in the photo came from one of the cruise sites on the web - a goldmine of nasty "styling" curse word! Someone should tell him that V-Tech actually make children's electronic learning toys, and is nothing like the V-Tec used by Honda! What a clown!

don't think that 3 spokes will ever look good. Well apart from the Saabs.
Maybe in the future people will be modifing old Saxos to look like the Max Power cars of 2004.

There is the odd car that looks ok on them such as I think its more of a case of I like the car and its carrying them though. I have no doubt a nice set of 5 or 6 spokes would be far better

Just a brief thought on three-spokes: Yesterday in the 'Wade, aka Chavtown, I saw a late 80's Audi 80 or 90 running on some 16 in ones. OK, the car was a little bit edgy, but had been lowered and had these on and nowt else done to it. It actually looked quite good! This was probably because (i) the car was ice blue, which will probably sit well with any rims, and the "jelly-mould" shape was set off by the curved edge of the rims. SCARY! On anything else, they always look wibblepoo though! And what's with that Barry Gnosh-pit at the start of the thread. He looks like his mother's dressed him. Those "ho's" are probably actually his sisters, and he's just picking them up from "slack-jawed-slapper" classes somewhere in Chigwell.... ;D
