You need to be aware too about a little underhanded practice insurers are getting up to. If you miss a direct debit payment for whatever reason (bank cock up e.t.c) then some companies immiediately cancel your insurance there and then. They send you a letter to tell you but that can take a couple of days to get to you. In the mean time you car will then show up on the national insurance database as uninsured so any police car with a number place reader will automatically pull you. 6 points and a big fine, even though as far as you knew you were all legit. No excuses!! Happened to a friend of a friend a year or so ago. Tim, are you sure that is correct? I thought there was provision within the law to cover situations exactly like this. Mike

Mike I had heard that there was a provision that if you had made a reasonable effort to ensure that you were insured you would be ok, but you know what the old bill can be like, they like to prosecute uninsured motorists to the full extent they can. In Birmingham they confisctae your car if you cant prove you are insured so I don't know where you would stand getting it back again, and who would pay for the recovery/storage. As far as I know the guy I had been told about was done for no insurance. I don't know him first hand so I guess I cant say its 100% correct but I have no reason to doubt it.

With me, footman james did not ask if the car was a stock colour, just what colour it was. I put blue, and send off photos for the agreed valuation. It's not a stock colour, but they didn't say anything. Ah, it was when they got the photos and saw the (very curse word!) flame paint job that they wrote back... Mine is light blue with 2 white stripes

Aye, this was a few years ago and someone else was saying they had a Scalloped Minx or something insured by FJ OK.
Only other worry was when a chap in the MMA got his renewal declined "as they hadn't realised his Plymouth Baracuda was LHD..." when he took the policy out...
