Day 3. After as good nights sleep you’ll get in a car, at least you can sort of stretch out in a Capri, and I was able to peg up some turkish towels to limit light ingress. Only error was me making some sacrifices to the driving gods by exposing my skin feeding the local midge population. I didn’t believe what it could be like until I saw the cloud of the little buggers outside the car waiting to feed.
When I woke beyond the midges this was what I was greeted with. I knew the day was going to be good.
I brewed up a quick cuppa
Then set off .I have to say this was the new best day of driving of my life. I spent around 13 hours. Another 500 miles driving in glorious sunshine doing the route round to Ullapool, down to applecross then back to Inverness… then back along Loch Ness to Skye where I’d booked another hotel. Roads were a mix of tight single track roads, single track roads with amazing site lines and sweeping A roads.
These pics do little justice to the scenery, the roads, or the fun I had.
Besides the scenery, highlights include passing a 2CV, following a DB11 for a reasonably long time, however was relatively surprised not to meet to much that was particularly interesting.
Day 4… Not much really to say. It was a bank holiday monday, having been the hottest bank holiday in history and I needed to be home. I could have pushed another day in Scotland, but thought I’d be sensible and head home as I had a campervan trip planned to depart for Cornwall on the Wednesday, so having a rest day seemed pretty sensible. I think I ended up driving 12 hours or so home, covering 600 miles from Skye down to South London. I got home late in the evening.
I covered over 2000miles in 4 days in the Capri, and had no problems at all. I love this car, so much fun and the mods I’d done, slightly stiffer and lower, fresh tyres, K&N, Exhaust, polybushed, although not major, really came into their own during the trip.
This weekend I finally got around to cleaning the Capri, I need to do another oil change but that can wait to another day.
If you want to see more I’m on instagram as fantasticmrford, where I try to keep to car / campervan only content. I posted a few vids and some more pics from the trip there.
Thanks for reading. I'm starting to scheme my next road trip.
Cheers
