People used to say MX5's were girls cars. Same goes for Z3's. I helped my girlfriends fit blonde mate find herself one and for a 2.8 convert, with power hood and leather, it cost the nuts of a pea.
I think the right rims and ride height can transform their look. If I were shorter and slimmer I might have had one myself.

I don't thing the 2.8i's are underpowered, with a few cheapish mods go like hell, manual box and LSD available from the factory, and many cars actually have them, the suspension is soft for a sportscar but very well damped and the dynamics are spot on, can be driven very enthusiastically with total confidence, nicely progressive transition to easily controlled oversteer from a gentle underteer setup, easy to drive through... the 'girls car' thing came from the first year when only 1.9's were available, nice engine but not a patch on the 2.8, 190bhp of straight six loveliness, sounds amazing, and the lightly tuned version in my 328i made over 230bhp and definatley was NOT slow.... When i sell the MX5 It'll definitely be one of these that replaces it... And if you need more ooomph....

I had a 2.0 straight six a few years ago and thought it was great,no lekky issues 100% reliable, only problem was tram lining on motorways, sometimes quite scary, apparently solved by fitting decent tyres.Would certainly reccomend !
