I'm picking up a Saab 9000 tonight. 2.0 turbo, with lots of Abbott Racing goodies - already have the required gearbox to fit it. Can I make the engine mounts, exhaust, modify the (aluminium) sump, convert the engine to fwd (cut up & flip the inlet mani (also aluminium), water pipes, etc..), sort the wiring loom, cooling system, find space to mount an intercooler, etc, etc, in time for RRG? Probably not. But I've also been offered a 2.0 CIH (sorry bstardchild) which would drop right in aaaand get me to RRG, meaning I could sort that ^^ little lot out later. Unfortunately it's in Gloucester Decisions decisions... I'm really surprised I haven't been able to find one easier / closer tbh Anyone got one?!

I think he means fwd, as in longitudinally mounted, rather than FWD.

Read the whole thing between sanding paint and drinking tea! Excellent work chap, shame about the motor but then these things tend to result in bigger, better things happening eventually!

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

Hi I'm new to this site but see this old girl an had to comment. I ised to own this rekord and selling it was my biggest regret. But unfortunately at the time I had too many toys and not enough money to repair gearbox.. And yes I am the bad person that rat looked her and gave you all the d.a hours to do. But in my defence rat wat cool at that time? I thought you would like a bit of history on the car. I brought it in 2010 it had sat in a farmers field up the road from me in toddington Bedfordshire for 13 years that I know of maybe a bit longer. and one day I decided to give the farmer a knock. anyway long story short I brought it for £100. Dragged it home put fresh fuel and battery and it fired straight up. Changed tyres and a few bulbs and booked it in for m.o.t and on the way there the front brakes locked on and sent the front brakes up in flames. Luckily the next day billing was on so went billing and managed to get new wing and two front brake calipers that where off of a manta. So I went home fitted them and it went straight threw a m.o.t. I think the only fault he found was wipers where perished but he didn't put advisory for it. I then kept it until end of 2011 maybe just into 2012 and that's when I sold it to a guy in South wales. When I had it I cut the springs and ran it in steeleies and just when I had brought some wheels the gearbox made a horrible rattle. so as I said it had to go unfortunately. I'll try find some pictures for you of it when I originally brought it I have them somewhere. Good to see that the old girl is still going I have always kept my eye open with the intention of buying it again, so if you ever want to sell it on please contact me I would be definatly interested. Or if you hear of any other rekords goin let me know. But really glad to see it didn't go scrappers. looks like rot got the worse of it in last few years so good on ya not walking away. And glad you kept the most comfy seats I have ever sat in. Hopefully I'll see it at a few shows this year

Well don't sir this is a credit to you and I absolutley love it.
How's the paint holding up. I was in two minds wether or not to do my Audi but this thread has really got me swaying towards the DO IT side!!!

2015 since an update. Yoinks Well, I had the car on the road for ages since then, used it loads, then took it off the road for reasons I can't remember, lent the engine to Colonelk cos he needed it for this (that may actually have been the whole reason), and it hss pretty much sat around since then. Elk has built a new I6 engine for his Rekord now, so my little Manta GTE lump is available again, so I could / probably should put it back in mine and get it on the road. Might require a bit of tidying up & general recommissioning but shouldn't need much, HOWEVER, it is not going to survive my massive clearout of cars/projects/parts (full details here). So, if anyone wants it, please shout. It can go as-is (complete, but with the engine not in it) or running & driving (but the price would go up, obviously) - please drop me a line if you're interested & want to chat or come see it (nr Uckfield).

It's looking like this is off to pastures new, so here are some photos of how completely awesome it turned out First pic is mine, but the rest are by the excellent Chris Frosin ( Diabolu on here) from when the purple Rekord was featured in Total Vauxhall mag (yes really, hahaha) alongside the similarly colourful Monzas of Colonelk and mantaphil. Good times
