I wouldn't know were to start on that one, my lady friend who will drive it, won't need power. 110bhp is nice enough though. Am I right that the 323 had same lump with turbo and a model called BBR and its easyer than most turbo conversions.

That image is a google one that I got regarding the postioning of the stick on number plate. Will ammend the title of that post. My aim was to show what I am aiming for, eveything I have done is cosmetic as the car drives well. Nice place to live/work mind you.

My Mrs had a look at your thread and was really pleased to see you so happy with the MX5. Certainly looks a bit more red than it did and the new hood makes it look much more tidy overall. I always fancied satin black rims and a hardtop!

I always fancied satin black rims and a hardtop! Thanks for the comments and I bet she is on the look out for your fourth MX5 to replace the VW. I would love a set of black and chrome deep dish minilite wheels they would look perfect but its goona cost a fair packet and second hand one's get hooverd by mini guys or other mx5 owners. The 14'' daisy type look great too so will defo keep them, to boot they are in great shape after all this time. The hard tops are so expensive so thats out of the question. Will treat the plastics to some Linseed oil to give 'em a well deserved feed next and spray left overs under arches and hidden bits for some medieval metal protection:o

Been doing a few job on the old girl, Replaced the cracked front perspex number plate for a reflective stick on one, just needs a tidy up in its mouth, one good thing there were no holes were drilled in bumper for old plate: Fitted a old Sony head unit that I had in from my old GSI2000, the face of the unit fitted was missing. Here is where the fun began, I had to order a Sony 16 pin din plug, got it from non tax paying Amazon for £1.84 delivered, Tried it but still no sound from front speakers or from the speakers in the head rest, had a looki and they were blown and was held in place by dry blu tack! The duck: They sounded as bad as they look. Fitted these alpines from another victim (318is) A tight fit but the fit well behind a plastic cover One door speaker (Kenwood) had a wire loose the other one had water which corroded it and I did everything in my power but I lost him! Fitted a factory Volvo one I had when I changed my door cards in my brick (If you have a 940, you know why) so will make do as is, sound is even and good mid range but it needs some more bass!!!

Looking good. Paintwork looks to have come up pretty well. I need to get a polisher on mine at some point once I sort the front wing.

The oops was a nice touch, wish mine had coilovers like yours, it has been lowered so is low...I am hunting some cheap braces the two chassis ones front strut and cabin brace, it being low and rear wheel drive and a great chassis it handles great. I think a mine needs a ducktail spoiler how much did you pay for yours bud if you don't mind me asking. I think that roof you have should be on mine

Actually got the ducktail given to me but it needs quite a bit of tidying etc. Would have liked a green roof for mine really but I was in need of a roof quite desperately and this one came up. The red on green is growing on me though . Good work on fitting those speakers, hoping to be swapping my seats soon from the tombstones to the ones with removable headrests to make fitting the cover easier. Thinking of getting some more bracing on mine at some point, have a cabin brace to fit in mine but as its the earlier 1.6 it doesnt have the nuts in the towers so trying to find some the right pitch to fit the standard bolts, I also need to raise the front up about 10mm as still getting the odd scrub on tighter bends.

Here is a Japanese web link on how to fit cabin brace to early roadsters, cabin brace might help a tad in roll but it would do a lot in a side impact so worth it. www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/3349/nicebody/brasebar/ebbar.html

Those blue tac speakers are rather bizzare! Nothing to do with me by the way!

Those blue tac speakers are rather bizzare! Nothing to do with me by the way! Thought not you have better skills than that, think you were running the front ones only. Who ever did it, why if they couldn't replace them, use threaded duck tape why blue tac of all things I was hoping I wouldn't have to do any audio stuff as I have had smoke out of a couple of decks, so that not my thing for sure. Came out OK in the end and super cheap, misses always nags why I hold on to tat, so used a few old bits on this so audio wise spent only £2 this time round. I can CHILLAX and listen to some Frankie goes to Hollywood now

I know its a way off but when summer comes you'll be needing a hood cover. Just so happens my Mrs found the one that goes with your car so if you like, I can mail it down to you?

You is a nice boyo ain't ya. Will come in use before summer as I drive it hood down often, have recently stopped this because lots of white stuff falls from the sky. I know you got older BM's and you know your way around them, but I have a old Chilton E36 manual (covers the M3) if you fancy a swap, if not how much you want for it bud.

nice thread.
I love mx5's - some people take the pi$$, but those are usually idiots who havent tried one. Once you do try them your usually hooked (i know I was)
saw the mention of turbo conversions - if thats on the agenda then its probably an idea to join mx5nutz as the lads on there have a good knowledge of some of the finer mechanical stuff for the mx5. (in fact prob an idea to join even if you don't want to turbo, as it has a good for sale board etc)
ive got 2 mx5's atm - selling one, but the other I intend to keep a while
enjoyed the read so far and looking forward to reading your updates

Total agree people slate them for being girly but they are great track cars for a reason, cheap to run parts are cheap too. The low down grunt is great. Its great to have something small, drop top RWD and pop up lights, I for one am loving it. The mk1 appeals to me more than any other MX or cars of similar type, the '89 Lotus Elan has more power 140bhp but FWD and much more expensive. With a turbo this Roadster could be 200bhp ;D Will leave the turbo thing as it will bring a load of issues mind you got a TDO4 in my Volvo and will keep a eye out for one but its the things around it like the oil return pipe that will throw me. Joined Mx5 owners club forum, will join Nutz but might be laughed at coz I haven't modded it to death. P.S. Sanjay the local shop keeper has a stash of bounty bars if your still on the hunt
