The highest mileage car I've been in was a Mercedes 190 taxi in Hungary or Austria (don't remember which), automatic with a Burberry spec cloth interior - 600 odd thousand! This was not the taxi, but everyone else has posted a photo: ![](http://www.imcdb.org/i091418.jpg)

Not exactly the highest overall mileage but I covered 11.000 miles in 10 weeks in my old pinto engined mk2 Granada for work, did that job for a couple of years and was doing roughly a thousand miles a week racked up 26.000 miles in my diesel Astra in 6 months before it died

My dad runs cabs and fits meters so i see loads of cars with high mileage and they are getting better, back in my yoof a Cortina with 120k on it was almost certain to be on its last legs but this morning my ol' man was fitting a meter in a Ford Galaxy that already has 300k on it and its going to be a cab, it looks perfectly serviceable..

My Holden ute has 450,000km on the clock, and the speedo stopped working long before I got it, so I would guess it's probably over 500,000km. It had definitely had several major rebuilds though. The rear axle has been changed, the engine looks like a recent rebuild and the gearbox has just gone bang! Poor old Aussie four speed was probably the only original bit left in the drivetrain. ![](http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo304/waveman1500/Honda%20CBX%20250/IMG085.jpg)

We've done maybe 140k in the Herald since '98. Hard to know for sure due to diff swaps. It had about 50k showing when we got it but the speedo wasn't working and there were some previous MOTs showing the same mileage in different counties.... It will have almost certainly done double that in its first 28 years. So its likely somewhere around 250k at least. It is not on on its original clutch/gearbox/engine/brakes/suspension bushes/whatever. It does still have most of its original paint however, has never been garaged in our ownership and the longest spell it has been 'off the road' was four months for the MX5 engine swap. ![](http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa65/sethke/Triumph%20Herald/Img_5923.jpg)

My one uncle was a farmer and had an early '70's Merc diesel which I remember hit a million miles in his ownership, he drove it till he died, then his wife traded it on a VW Citi Golf at the time.
His secret was regular servicing.

I hired a car and driver for the day in morocco. It was a Merc W123 240D, and during the trip I noticed the odometer click round to 600,000km. The driver could Only speak Arabic but he motioned that the clock was on its third time around, so 2.6 million km! One of the reasons I bought a w123. Mine's only done 86k though!

The highest i've had was a 1988 Senator 3.0 12v, it had 235k miles on the clock was on it's original engine with no rebuild and was the sweetest sounding 3.0lt i'd heard. Took the oil filler cap off and inside was like new with no sludge!
In the late 90's i knew a bloke who owned a 1990 Cavalier 2.0 SRI that had covered 350k and finally needed a rebuild, it was always serviced on time and was only ever driven flat out!! The 1st gearbox lasted until about 200k and the 2nd (a 2nd hand one) only lived until 300k! The guy had owned it from new and it was hardly what you'd call pampered!!

Well can't complain at that response for my first started thread! Strange that two of the cars i own are mentioned in this thread So it would seem my 2 cars a cavalier Sri (125k) and Peugeot 405 (130k) if looked after are still potentially not even half way through there lifespan!

I had a mk6 td escort that i put 89k on in 3 years and sold it with 203k on the clock and all that ever had on it was a water pump and a cam belt kit. There is an old chap who lives in my village with an A reg mk2 fiesta 1.1 pop plus, he has had it since 1985 and it has got an astounding 167k on the clock with the mot's to prove it !!! I do the odd repair to it now and then and the chap says that he has never had the engine to bits and its on its orignal clutch !!!!

My 420SEL had 220k on it, rust claimed that one... The only other highish mileage car I've had was an LS400 on 178k.
I find engines are fine these days, it's the rest of the car that falls apart around them...!!

^ how true! One of my mates had a 1990 Rover 214 with 330k miles on it (taxi). It failed the PSV because the seats were falling to bits. Engine donated to a Metro.
Another chap I know has had a 1987 Passat 1.6 pez from new. Knocking on 300k now, and aside from tired looking paint it's fine.
As others have said, keep it serviced properly and you should be grand.

Not the highest mileage but my '97 A4 B5 TDI 110 has 239,000 on the old girl. A chap I know has a B5 Passat TDI with 420,000 last time I saw him.
