Hi everyone I am hoping to supercharge my Hillman Imp in a few years, i already have plans for how i am going to lower the compression ratio (930 cylinder head). I am thinking of using an eaton m45 charger along with some sort of intercooler. What else will be needed to complete the setup i.e carbs? electronics? Any help appreciated Cheers, James

Carbs or EFI will work.
Depends what kind of supercharger, the size of budget and what you fancy!
I'd go for EFI, mappable with a laptop, keeps the supercharger dry and that's what most (all?) modern cars with superchargers use.

Hi andy Thank for the fast reply I'm hoping for around about 120BHP at the end of it which shouldnt be too hard to achieve. I was thinking bike carbs to keep it simple from something like a 600 with a low fuel pressure setting. I would hope to do it all for less than a grand idealy. Ive seen the superchargers for about £200 - £300, Bike carbs for about £45. Cheers, James

Cheers, James I'm turboing some cbr600 carbs on my micra, you will need to make a plenum, and plumb in the float bowl vents, sort a way to stop fuel being forced out the carbs, amongst a lot of other things too I'm not quite finished yet but have a look at the link in my signature.

The Su carb and Magnusson supercharger conversion on my SIMCA 1000 was done in the mid 80's. I've only had it a few years but i gathered from the original owner that Auto power Services (long gone) who did it opened out the combustion chambers in the alloy head to lower the compression. It gives loads of low down torque and feels like something much bgger than 1294cc. Sheer fun but thirsty...worth it for the fun factor. Am working on another for a SIMCA using an Eaton M45 but other projects keep intervening. Mick

The ignition on the supercharged SIMCA 1000 is Lumenition on the original Ducellier distributor and I'm told that I'd get more out of it If the size of the drive pulleys were rethought to increase the speed of the supercharger hence the boost. That will have to wait till it needs stripping down for some work. Mick

what compression are you running and how much boost you want? i'm running eaton m45 on 10:1 engine with 0.4bar boost and megasquirt efi

I'm not sure, I have a feeling it's 10.8:1 as standard. Not sure why but i think thats right, its around that anyway. Cheers, James
