It's probably suffering because as discussed, values are rock bottom which means they don't get much love lavished upon them. This in turn makes the HG more likely to fail which is why scrapyards are filling up with them. There's a lot of K series love on www.austin-rover.co.uk and I'm a regular on the forum (Yan2CV). Lots of ex-Rover employees and a very useful place if you get stuck for something.

Ill join the austin rover forum when i get chance later on today (just finished work see) The G-dad in law took good care of this car, it had regular services and lived in a garage. Ive replaced the knackered clutch cable and the coolant temp sensor and its 500% better to drive and doest cut out nearly as much but has still got the throttle lag. Ive got the problem tracked down to the throttle position sensor (I think) which i changed for a scrapyard item which made it worse. Ill swap it for a known working example, then if that doesnt work ill swap the whole throttle body, then ill try replacing the ecu............ Ive found a vandalised rover 214 SLI behind a garage over the road, the garage owner says that the cars owner will want it scrapped so I should beable to pick any parts off it I need. Only problem is apart from a dented bonnet and broken rear screen its in great condition with no rust anywhere AND all the proper SEI bits and no grey bumpers. Maybe I could combine one good car from the two? hummmm The beauty with having a car like this is that if it gives you too much grief you can always weigh it it. Problem solved! Thanks Brian, knowing that my old Escort is providing sterling service is making me feel much better

.....Ive just pulled the rear arches off it too. they're rotten. Got it running well though, its very peppy and handles well. Despite my slagging i do like the car, its well built and very comfortable. Feels much more modern than I thought it would. If I could find a good late example for the right money and at the right spec I think id have it. I recon ill just run the MOT out on this then drive it into the sea.
Ill post pics on the readers ride section, but they wont be pretty!
