Is it even possible?
I'm looking for some suitably mega rims for an SD1 which uses a 5x127 bolt pattern. All I can find that shares the same pattern are 1960s pontiacs or similar which roll on fugly steels.
Very rarely do nice aftermarket wheels appear and usually they fly up to silly money.
My only options appear to be finding some nice small (15") Porsche wheels (5x130) and hope wobble bolts will safely take up the extra 3mm slack (anyone know if this is possible?) Or consider having standard vitesse wheels widened to 8j if its even doable.
Answers on the back of a postcard please folks

Late Jeep Cherokee / Grand Cherokee are 5x5" which is the same - failing that i'm sure ive got a pair of new 8x15 prolines somewhere in that pattern, and you're more than welcome to borrow a porsche rim to see if it'll be anywhere near

I might just have to take you up on the offer of trial fitting a Porsche wheel mike. I'd like to think they'd go on fairly easily. I should be getting the car back in the next few weeks with a bit of luck.
Cheers dude

Kevfromwales has got a pair of 16x14 centerline autodrags in that fitment, if you want to have the biggest wheels on road in the UK lol.

why don't you have some hubcentric pcd converters made up. seems alot less hastle then you could run whatever wheels you wanted

In short: yes, it's possible. But much more difficult, as aluminium has some rather weird welding mechanis going on, I'd guess you'd have to determine the exact alloy, find suitable welding rods and a as similar as possible material to make the bands with. But I'm not speaking from experience, just from what I guess based on some random knowledge ;D
Purely from a physical and highly simplified point of view; same as steel wheels. Cut, weld in a band - done.

There was a guy on volkszone that could do it, but rather than the band on the outer edge it had to be widened from the inner edge, not sure if this would help or not.
Maximum he could apply was 1".
I'll try to find his details

This is something I've thought about for some time now, and looked very hard at my old Revolutions before I sold them.
I know I could band an alloy wheel, the same basic principles apply as to doing steels. BUT, would I trust them to drive on? I don't believe I would. Would I roll slowly around a show ground on them? Yes, but very little else. I'd want to see a destruction test to put my mind at ease, but then it's not much use to anyone is it !!

5x5" is a pattern of winners if you look about there are plenty of old drag / rod wheels available in that size - also, big revolutions come up in that size quite often and, as matt says, I have a pair of 16x14 centrelines in that pattern, but you'd need BIG balls to run them - kfw

I ran a set of 911 wheels on my SD1 for over 12 months with no problems at all.

Awesome. How did you go about that? Wobble bolts?
