Hi, I am with Symes on this, it is just an added complication. Why should I store photo's, that I have on my computer, in an offsite/online photo album as well. About a year ago Imagecave went pop, everything lost! What your really saying here is You uploaded them, then you thought "Ahh they are in this magical thing called the interweb they must be safe, I'll delete them from my computer".. Always have a backup then nothing is lost. I'm with Mr B on this, its not complex at all just people being unwilling to learn. Nice Rover by the way.

There is little this forum can do about it anyway even if they wanted to. This site is hosted by proboards and the attachment feature isn't always available. Its a pain anyway when they are used as it causes threads to load very slowly.

If Proboards are providing a service then they should provide the facilities. Colin

They're providing a free service, and it's not their obligation to do everything for you. I really don't think this is something to get angsty over, we all have to do it the same way.

Colin ^^ But isn't that a bit like saying that Retro Rides should pay for the petrol for everyone to get to the Gathering? ^^ Proboards do actually provide the facility to host photos, but 99.9% of people prefer to host them themselves because they upload better and they have complete control over them.

Why should I store photo's, that I have on my computer, in an offsite/online photo album as well. Because they have to be stored on the internet somewhere - otherwise we wouldn't be able to look at pictured you'd uploaded when your computer was off. And your PC and internet connection would be constantly busy serving the pictures to everyone that opens the page that they display on. The fact that server time and space is available for free (from proboards, photobucket, etc.) still stuns me. Complaining that you have to use one free website to host photos to display on another free website - because the second website doesn't have enough server space to host the photos for you - seems somewhat absurd to me. In addition, if you want to post your photos on multiple websites uploading them to photobucket (or similar) means you can just link to them from everywhere - rather than uploading them to each different website in turn.

If you all want to give David 50 quid a year each to triple the server size cos you're too lazy/dumb/obstinate to figure it out, I'm sure it could be arranged. Forums self-hosing pics uses a HUGE amount of data, and isnt really viable for a forum with 2500 members. Forum software isn't designed to host pics, it's designed to forum. That's why there are sites solely offering pic hosting, cos they're designed specifically for it.

So what it boils down to is: someone should do everything for me and everything should be free.
A microcosm of what is wrong with this country today.

I believe the other reason a lot of sites don offer self hosting is they then become responsible for the content uploaded by their forum members, which is a total minefield that I wouldn't want to be responsible for either! Leave it to photobucket and they can vet things their way.

Just as a side note, it's just as easy to ost pictures you have on Facebook. (I know a lot of people don't do Facebook, but there's an equally large number that do) Just right click 'copy image location' when viewing the image you want to 'transfer' to the forum and then 'paste' inbetween the image tags I'm not very good at expalining this stuff, but I managed to figure out the process for myself

I'm thinking my comment was a bit harsh but 6 weeks ago I started a job I never have done before in an unfamiliar industry. My old job got done away with. I learn an new one. Same as your VHS gets replaced with a DVD player and a Sky+ or whatever.
curse word changing all the time. Some of it for the better, some of it not. Either way you keep up or get left behind.
Feel free to point out what a hypocrite I am because I refuse to work on modern cars 'cos I'm not about to learn about fuel injection and all those pipes and wires!

I have several family members who refuse to upgrade from vista because W7 is "to different". I can't wait until they buy a new computer that has W8 on it.

Is it just me, or does anyone else remember when uploading meant logging into a FTP server?

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Is it just me, or does anyone else remember when uploading meant logging into a FTP server? Yeah, and I got sick of it so I learned basic PHP and made myself an image uploader script. I don't use it nowadays cos imgur makes things just too easy.
