Awesome build, love how you've extended the body without extending the roof, proportions are great.
As for the registration if you IVA it (which legally you should) it'll go on a Q plate and that's it. It doesn't matter whether it is historic interest or not, Q plate is the only way. This is NOT, I repeat NOT a bad thing. If you ever sell it the car would be worth a lot more correctly registered. Think of it as Q for Quality.

OK that's enough BIVA talk - the key points have been put across, can we keep the inevitable four pages of picking the rules apart in a different thread? Keep this one for the build details and worry about the red tape elsewhere?
Back on track, this is an absolutely cracking build - the car looks great and the stretch worked a lot better than I'd have imagined. Just extending the back end risked it ending up looking like one of those banham porsche replicas, but it's turned out lovely.
With the MGF subframes being so similar to a metro, if you decide you want it original you can always bolt a 998cc A series in the front, and another one in the back as well for twice the oil leaks!

You are building a great car and the balance and stance of the car are looking great. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing the finished car.

I've read all this about 3 times today, it really is a gem. I am loving the engine hatch, it fits perfectly!!! Any more pics of its manufacture, with the 4mm steel former and that?

That's no Moggy. It's the high-flying offspring of two quality but sometimes misunderstood parents! I would absolutely love to see this in the flesh at a Retro Rides gathering; would even be prepared to get off my and bounce it by the power of V6 mk2 Golf on coilovers all the way there. Bookmarked.

With the MGF subframes being so similar to a metro, if you decide you want it original you can always bolt a 998cc A series in the front, and another one in the back as well for twice the oil leaks! Similar to the Rover Metro/100 that used the same K series engines, albeit the 1100 and 1400, rather than 1600 and 1800. The Austin Metro with the A series 998 and 1275 lumps in had completely different subframes. I know an A series Mini subframe requires a lot of modification to make a K series fit, easier to wangle a K series subframe into the Mini, but know no one that's tried to put an A series in a K series frame. Fantastic work, great vision, very impressive fabrication. And it all makes me wonder why I moan and delay my project because I have no garage to use. Inspirational, whatever VOSA say and whatever plate it has, simply brilliant.

Just to echo what everyone else has said really, this is a brilliant build. It looks proportionally so much better than I thought it would too. I agree that an original colour is the way to go with this. Fantastic work mate, keep us posted.

I tell you what mate, you might suck at understanding computers but you certainly don't suck at building well thought out quality cars, and that's all that matters.
Is this your first build or something you being doing for many years?.

Brilliant! Just the right amount of bonkers, yet subtle with it. Win. Id recomend the grey that looks pretty much like gloss primer grey, with a red interior. Make it look like some sort of lost prototype from way back.

Glad you managed to get your issues sorted... My email has been out of action for a couple of days due to computer issues... but I get on here finally (at work ) and see you are all set up and posting Quality plates are awesome if you can get them.

Q plates RAWK, until you try to sell a vehicle with one on, or attempt to insure it, or get asked for the 1000th time if it is ‘stolen recovered’ or whatever

This situation is infinitely more preferable than if the DVLA call it in for an inspection when it changes ownership, and it fails, and then the new owner turns up at your house and bops you on the nose and takes his money back.

Q plates RAWK, until you try to sell a vehicle with one on, or attempt to insure it, or get asked for the 1000th time if it is ‘stolen recovered’ or whatever ive got a couple of cars on 'q' plates and have no issues at all with insurance or anything - i used to be real 'q' snob, but now am happy that i can use them on the road without hassle. the 'modern' thinking is that a 'q' shows that the car is right, and certainly stops all the biva/iva slather. in some instances id rather buy a modded vehicle thats 'q' than not, as it allows a greater scope for modding etc. the days of 'q' been the preserve of stolen xr3i's etc is over i think the moggy is great, a real bit of leftfield thinking

Another thread ruined because EVERYONE has to bang on about VOSA/BIVA/IVA...Who cares we have heard all that stuff over and over. I come here to see cool motors not to hear the same rubbish, its repeated more than WWII in a retirement home!
