Great road trip, glad it worked out. The dealer sticker says Henlys. Not sure if there were many but there was a Jaguar dealer in Chester by that name while I was growing up.

I think there may well have been more than just one Henlys named dealership, my old '74 Austin Mini was purchased new from a Henlys dealership in Bristol.

Original logbook says Henlys London. Replaced the front shocks yesterday and tightened the wheel cover on one mag wheel and it seems to be handling better and a little quieter. I have weird slip/drag sensation when cornering and accelerating at low speeds or accelerating hard from rest, have been told it will be gearbox mounts so fingers crossed! New sparkplugs too has improved the idle, although it appears to be running slightly richer on the front carb than the rear.
Can someone move this over to readers rides?

$2.5k seems like a bargain, well done!

" and this sticker may mean something to a few of you. It was cheaper to buy a luxury car like this in the UK and drive it for 3 months over there then ship it back then pay the import duties in Australia."
Two Aussies who worked around Europe with my brother used to do that all the time. Always jags/daimlers, saloons & coupes. Two a year , one in august other in february. Used to earn good money from it apparently . Ran them around for six months then shipped it back for sale in Oz when they came back to the UK to pick up the next one.

just got it back from inspection and it looks like I have a long weekend ahead of me. Power steering is leaking oil from everywhere, a seal near the crank pulley is leaking notably, the rear disks are undersized and the rear brake piston boots are dry/worn

curse word, can you run it on the NSW rego till you get it sorted? Hopefully the power steering won't be too much of a mare to sort out. I could never really get my head around what they check on a RWC apart from the obvious bits, wouldn't have thought of disc thickness unless they were really goosed.

This is one of the reasons why I'm glad I live in South Australia. You can drive around in any old thing! ;D

Unfortunately I can only use the NSW rego for one more week. I've done some reading and the front seal doesn't sound too hard with the right tools, and a local specialist can do the rear brakes without removing the whole rear subframe, so I'm thinking I'll deal with a lot of the little niggly bits today then hand it and some $$ over to a professional

I checked over the vital fluids, oil was well topped up, water still I left around 7am Saturday morning with a now dead phone to make the journey down the coast road, a little over 900km to go in the journey. I made it around 100km before my first breakdown. I had been warned that there was some rubbish in the fuel system that could clog the fuel filter and cause poor running, backfiring and other associated unpleasantries. Uphill on a windy 100km/h road the Jag started to miss and lose power, thankfully there was a pull-off spot just ahead which I managed to make use of in a cloud of smoke. That looks awfully a lot like between Kiama and Gerringong. I live in Kiama and drive that way pretty often!

So the Jag's getting registered tomorrow.
I've got a RWC and am overall wrapped with the car, only a couple of concerns remain.
Under heavy acceleration from standstill (especially uphill or around a corner) I get a friction sound which I assumed was the brake band in the transmission slipping. The car loses momentum while this noise is happening, backing off eliminates the noise and improves momentum. The car now has rebuilt rear calipers, new cottonreel transmission mount and I have adjusted both brake bands. I think it is worse when the transmission is warm. Any guesses?
Also, is there any accurate way to tell the year and month of manufacture of an XJ6? I believe it is an early 76 but have no definitive proof.

Got Vic rego today and in typical Jaguar fashion as I was driving to get the vehicle registered the horn stuck on of it's own accord, causing me to have to pull over, disconnect the horns and hope the inspector did nothing more than check the vehicle numbers matched! Thankfully all went well and the car is now completely in my name and on the road, time to get used to the fuel bills The gearbox slip/bind is still worrying me, it is definitely worse when the car is hot. The fluids haven't been changed in the gearbox in a few years (although the still look clean) so I will endeavour to do that this week

I've been following your thread because I love Jags and body conversions, I must say I found this Jag a bit too good to be cut up but then there are plenty left anyways I can't wait to see how it turns out! I laughed out loud at work! Haha it reminds me of Little Miss Sunshine.

I laughed out loud at work! Haha it reminds me of Little Miss Sunshine. The bit I left out of that is I work with vehicles for the disabled and the horn started to stick on as a car made by one of our competitors was turning in front of me. As it turned off it gave me the finger, I was looking around wondering who was tooting then realised it was me!
