Hi peeps I'm going to look at an 1982 corolla at the weekend, its just failed the MOT, needs a new rear shock and some welding on the sills, its had pretty much one owner most of its life and low milage, so what should i offer? This is the actual car in question

And some ideas would be great ;D
Thanks

Depends who is selling it. If it's an old giffer, offer £200 and watch them bite your hand off. If it's someone who knows that if they put it on eBay with the word 'drift' in the title they'd be onto a nice bonus, then you'll have to offer alot, lot more.

Depends what you think you`ll get it for. Try £100. If not go up from there until you feel uncomfortable. Its actual value is hard to determine, to be honest. Whats it worth with 12 months ticket, how much welding and how much is a shocker. This is what you need to ask yourself. Try pricing up a pair of sills from somewhere like partsbin first.

That's a cool looking Corolla, and in the king of retro colours - Brown! I don't know much about old Japanese stuff, but I doubt that car will have gathered much classic status in the eyes of many, and without an MOT and welding needed, I'd be tempted to offer as little as possible - £80? £100? They can only say no! Maybe someone with more J-knowledge will come along and point out that it's a super-rare model and worth a mint... I dunno ;D Cogs in my head are whirring now thinking what mods you could apply to it....

Forgot about drift tax. Does this/can it be made to apply to everything RWD?

Forgot about drift tax. Does this/can it be made to apply to everything RWD? Pretty much! ;D Particularly Japanese RWD due to the Initial D phenomenon... I didn't know these Corollas were RWD. Bonus!

Thats nice, and would be of great interest to some wannabe drift king to rag while his Silvia has its front end repaired again. However that would be a shame. I think you should offer 100 - 200 quid and a 'good home' before these knobbers find out about it.

I don't think i have ever seen one like that, however i'm not one of RR's premier J pervs!
I'd buy it.
Like usual its worth as much as someone else or you are prepared to pay for it, if noone else is in the running you could be lucky! but i smell potential.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'd say it was worth pretty good money, especially as it's a two door. Drifters and Irish J car fetishists would likely pay hansomely for it. It looks to be in very good shape judging by the condition of the rear arches. If it were me I'd start low as suggested but I don't think I'd even consider walking away until it hit the five hundred quid mark.

Yeah I'd hit that in a flash, especially being a 2 door sedan!!! Quite a rare variant of KE70 (because really, there wasn't a lot of POINT in it in the first place!). I'd expect something like that to sell here for around $2500 NZD, simply because it's a 2 door sedan, equivalent 4 dr would probably see $1500 - $1800 or thereabouts.
The shock issue isn't a huge one, E7 Corolla stuff is hardly expensive, so I'd replace the pair... and the welding, well if you're up to the task it'd be simple I suppose. A good availability of bits too... given the floorpan is so so similar to an AE86.
Tetsujin would be the fella to ask about it I would imagine!

It may be worth £500 to some people but in reality its just another MOT failed old motor. Blokes probably only looking for £50 and a good home for it. Id pay £100 max. Bet he only sees it as a mode of transport thats reached the end of its useful life.

Offer as little as you can, and aslong as its not up on ebay etc then you have the pick of prices. here is mine... I paid £1240 for this in the summer. Its minter than a XXX and has only 25k but the way I looked at was, i had another one that was in need of some repairs mechanicaly and body wise, and I paid £400 on just a picture. These cars share 'similar' floor pans to the much loved ae86 RWD corolla, so suspension and stuff is easy to comeby etc, as is any engine swaps to a 4age 1.6 16v. This corolla you have is known a a KE70 as it uses a 4k engine and is not a bad engine that can see 100bhp not to hard. Look here for advice on 4k engines. www.kp61.nethere for ke70 advice www.rollaclub.comwww.ae86drivingclub.comid say get it in a flash, the 2 doors are less seen for sale, but I personally prefer the 4 door and passed u a nice 2 door but thats all personal preference! If you want me to answer anything just ring me on 07841045022 and I can point you in the direction of panels, spares and advice on upgrades etc. i am currently rebuilding mine from the ground up with ae86 running gear, throttle bodies, coilovers and some tidy wheels. here are a few teasers on what they can look like (again not many 2 doors as they are just less common). later facelift version Adam
