Unfortunately due to the search feature excluding the word "van" i cant do a search. i have a 1997 l200 2wd pickup lowered, currently its insured with yes van insurance, they where the cheapest but its renewal time, and they've put it up £200 for no other reason than they are allowed to. i had the best plan in the world which was to insure it with footman james, on a vintage commercial policy (who quoted £250 a year if it was 15 years old, which it wasn't last year) who know only quote stuff as classic if its 30 years old? so thats stuffed!! so who too?? i've had enough of paying £700-800 premiums, i thought as i got old i had saw the last of them!!! have some trucks as penance for a boring topic loving that last one, old hilux?

NFU for us have been fantastic with insuring various 4x4s vans and pick ups over the years.
Its actually £10 a year cheaper for me to be insured on 1999 l200 2.5td 4life than it is on a 2001 1.4 petrol seat Ibiza.

thanks guys, NFU are no good, i live to close to urban areas (as they specialise in farms etc) and gladiator are still coming up with huge premiums, i suppose its just one of them things that we are expected to just deal with
i insured my first car 10 years ago when i was a rubbish 17 years old and paid less than i pay now!

I got a quote for a modded van last week and it was under £300 fully comp.
Must be something to do with your age, NCB and area.

a lot of it depend son the vehicle, a modded car derived such as a VW Caddy is a hell of a lot easier to get insured as its car derived than a T4 VW van...
I insured my T4 with HIC as a campe rin progress brought the premium from 900 to 350 and allowed about 2k more ein value and a load of mods too.. which is just silly..
As to pick ups they fall differently again, the lads on the hilux club use adrian flux/peter james/nfu etc

I had a surprise when I insured my van earlier this week- its an elcat city electric van, range of 30 miles, top speed 40 but because its (a) a van and (b) "modified"- converted from new, it has cost me almost 400 quid! Thats as advanced driver, no claims, limited miles, older, wiser, slower, club member, clean licence etc.....

I had a surprise yesterday when I insured my new rattleship with Sheilas wheels of all companies. Insurance designed with women in mind! Although its not a van, its a small car for the very reason that until the commercial insurance racket calms down, its cheaper and I keep my no claims. I remember my new L200 cost me a fortune, £600, and I have a faultless driving record too (in the last 12 years anyway). Insuring a partner always helps, simply so that you can share the driving on long journeys, whether you do them or not, despite the fact the motor will probably get used twice as much.... Goodluck in your search...

I once insured an Astramax, with 10 years NCB, when I later swapped it for a car My insurance company told me that the NCB was not transferable from a van to a car

I just bought a townace and had a hellish job finding insurance! Be wiser wanted 1089 a month!!! For a 35 year old with 4 years ncd!
Adrian Flux wanted 500! Had real problems finding a match for it though as its a petrol, manual import!
Eventually got it insured with Privilege for £280 :-)

The joke is that with a range of 40 miles max on my electric van, even with my partner on it, it is not realistic to get tired to swap drivers, and whilst zooming along at a possible 40 mph, it is unlikely to do much damage so why so high!? lol
