Seeing how many other old fords are coming out of the woodwork I thought it was about time to post up my own little daily driver/ mini project. Basically after my love/hate relationship with my mk3 polo gt I needed a new car that didn't give me issues with my back. Had a soft spot for old Fords for a long while so ended up finding a slightly ropey but more or less sound Sierra GT in my price range. Had a few issues when I got it such as having estate spec rear springs resulting in epic rake and wonky handling. Also had the usual Ford crusty arch syndrome and shafted laquer on the bonnet which made it all cloudy. Came with a few nice bits like the manifold back stainless piper exhaust and the Sapphire Cosworth lattice alloys though. Never actually got any pics of it when I first got it for some reason but jump forward a few months and we have this... 309722_10150291460171708_319309458_n by SparksECM, on Flickr Basically at this stage it'd been cleaned up a bit, had its horrible wind deflector taken off the roof and had 35mm lowering springs fitted (not that you can tell ) along with plate surrounds. A few mechanical issues had been sorted like wheel bearing, rear shocks etc and had got it running a bit less tappety and a lot less smokey. Jump forward another few months and we have this... Sierra GT by SparksECM, on Flickr Suede! by SparksECM, on Flickr Had fitted a new front bumper at this stage after a low speed bump resulted in my origional one kinda exploding all over the place. A trip to u pull it and a bit of ebaying and I had a replacement headlight, indicator and bumper. You can also just see the mk4 golf splitter in the first pic too. Silver pinstripe had been reoved at this point and I think it looks loads better for it. You can also see the faux suede headlining and pillars that Iain was kind enough to help me with to hide the rancid looking origional item. Uber fluffy goodness! Moving on yet more months aaaaaaand I have this.... IMG_6507 by SparksECM, on Flickr IMG_6510 by SparksECM, on Flickr IMG_6514 by SparksECM, on Flickr

Skip forward to now; IMG_6856 by SparksECM, on Flickr IMG_6830 by SparksECM, on Flickr IMG_6866 by SparksECM, on Flickr Currently rocking 15x7" front and 15x8" banded steels (not happy with the profile on the front tyres so will be going up to 50's when these wear out). Mystery height front springs with the matching rears still to go on. Looking at coilovers for the front either by machining out the hubs a bit and fitting mk4 golf units or custom ones from rally design. The wind deflector has re-appeared (needs tinting black as hate the colour of it). New diff has been bought as this one whines like a sod so hopefully when that goes on I can get my rear springs and camber shims on at the same time.

Good work with the car. I like the banded steels, though the purple colour isn't my cup of tea.

That went from "Oh now that looks really nice" to "Oh " in two flicks of the mouse wheel. Soz. Same for me sorry, it looked great when you picked it up and later on with the red stripe. Your car though, enjoy it Have you replaced the diff with another open one or a 4x4 item? My old 1.8 CVH Sierra slid really well with an XR4x4 axle.

Never mind this car, get on with your 'tina I think cars looking good though and I see your wind deflector is back on, is that cause of people who kept asking what the clips were for. Pictures are looking good although don't recognise some of the places. When are you doing all this extra work on it? looking forward to seeing the final result.

Can't believe people aren't keen on the way this looks! I think it looks great on the wide purple steels against the dark grey/blue bodywork. Plus I've always hated the 2wd Cosworth lattice wheels anyway, they only look passable on a standard saff Cosworth TBH.
As for the owners club, the vast majority of Ford forum and club members tend to dislike anything that doesn't sit on OE rims, Compomotive MO's or minilites. Nothing gave me greater pleasure than when I was at a local car show, I over heard a guy from the Obviously Ford stand say "He's ruined it!" to his mates, after taking a long time looking over my old green Sierra.
IMO all the car need is dropping a little further, if your budget can run to Gaz coilovers I'd highly recommend them. Serious lows and excellent ride quality.
I salute you ;D

I like it, looks good on the banded steels. The cossie look a like thing is done to death anyway so its good to see something different, of coarse I'm biased cos i have bigger steels on my Sierra too I really like the pics too, esp the front shot with the sun shining behind the trees!

Cheers for the comments all, good and bad. Robin, that means a lot. Your old hatch is one of my all time favourite cars so the praise means all the more . Would love some Gaz's but gotta stick with springs and shocks atm. Looking at the diy coilover kits from rally design to see if I can cobble something together though. Yep, she's definately a GT. Cant remember what I got the current front bumper off though so that might be what makes it look odd lol.

In person it looked propperly ropey I can assure you, it's just good choice of angles it's just an open diff. Folk want an arm and a leg for lsd rear ends for some reason so thats off the cards for the moment.

I've been offered a mint low mileage K plate 2.9i XR4x4 for sensible money that looks like this, I'm quite tempted even though the petrol costs will bankrupt me!
I still have to admit I prefer the body coloured front bumper with that red pin striping, that really suited it.

I like this car and I am with you on making it your own. If it was mine I would paint the wheels black or maybe silver, but that is probably all I would change.

Cheers all Xr4x4s are great, would love one of insurance was more agreeable. My front bumper has been non-body coloured since it went on. I've just covered the strip in black tape for the minute so that it matches the rest of the trim better

Xr4x4s are great, would love one of insurance was more agreeable. They're okay, but IMO they aren't a huge amount quicker than a good Twink, the 4WD system takes a little of the fun out and the fuel economy doesn't justify the performance.

My first XM ran steels. The second had some very nice alloys. Both shared 15x6 dimensions. The steels were lighter...

Fair enough, hoping to drop a zetec in this when money allows and I've read up enough on it anyway as the dohc in mine has seen better days lol. You ever do any conversions on any of yours?
