That's rather special. Good to see a survivor.
What was the story behind these? Where these the ones that were destroyed in large numbers by the government or have I got my stories mixed up?

They were made illegal for use on the road in March 2003, and as they were leased to disabled drivers, they were recalled by the Government and destroyed. Any remaining roadworthy ones have been reclassed as tricycles. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thundersley_Invacar#_

I remember an old boy tooling around my manor in one of these old things about 20 years ago and it didn't look the most comfortable of things to be piloting...!!! Now they just look pretty zany and oddly cool especially in that pale blue hue... Do you have any plans for a bit of covert tweakery or will it be just as AC intended...?! It's hard to believe they made this and the AC 3000ME at the same time...

How short sighted of the government.
What a cool car to have.
Glad you are looking after it.

Great to see this. There were lots around when i was at school. We used to have a VERY un-pc nickname for these little cars. Children can be so cruel

It is a cool looking car in its own unique way, The engine is a steyr -puch 500cc engine, built in Austria if the Internet is to be believed,2 cylinder horizontal layout, air cooled,it's then connected to an AC built variomatic drive system, similar in some ways as the DAFs,the power goes down to a diff built under the gearbox then drive shafts out to the hubs, The plan is to probably keep it reasonably original, maybe tweaking here and there if needs be. Thanks

I used to drive past a huge yard full of them somewhere down in South London in about 1987/7, you looked down onto the yard from a road so could just see this sea of "rhymes with Baz" Blue as it was affectionately known. I guess this was where they were being held prior to being cut up. I understand that at anything more than a mild clip they were bloody lethal to drive so a bike engined version will require a large locker full of clean underpants building in.

My mums house is about 200 yards from the factory! Their test route used to go by our street and on a regular basis they used to end up in accidents at a certain crossroads. The factory is still there, but not sure whats being produced at the moment. They were made by Greeves Motorcycles www.greeves-riders.org.uk/historyAnd as a footnote....the roofs used to make excellent sledges!

A real classic! Is it some sort of tiller bar rather that a steering wheel? There was some big demo ( disabled rights?) with a load of these in the late 70s/early 80s on one of the London bridges and they were all tipping over in the wind!

I have a picture in my mind of one of these parked at the edge of a sunday league football pitch in somewhere grim like Bradford or Sheffield ( a few cooling towers in the background), with some old boy in, wearing his footy hat and scarf, in about 1984 or 5. Its probably from a film or something, or maybe just my unrealistic perception of early 80's working class life.

I think back when these were a lot more common, you could get into football matches for free and park on the sidelines with them. There is a few photos ive seen of a good row of these sitting side by side behind the goal mouth. phil
