Being a complete Luddite I haven't got access to a scanner, but in the latest issue of Hot Rod is surely the ultimate satin black retro motor - a '76 Mack R600 tractor unit, complete with red steels and white walls.
Who needs a satin black Shadow eh?

Would need the right truck in this country......don't think a Bedford TK would quite cut the mustard with the same amount of aplomb :-)

One of these would be just the job......Bedford KM, hard to believe it's the same cab as a TK, that extra bumper makes it look evil This would be my choice though....Sid Harrison operated a fleet of these from his base in Sheffield right up until about five years ago, at the risk of sounding sexist these were men's trucks ;D

One of my teenage dreams was to mod a TK... The local fire service sold off a load of 'em, just four ton flat beds. I figured slam it and strip off the bed... Oooh. Big stuff just appeals in a really agricultural way... Thinking about it though, a diddy TK is only the size of a big Transit anyway. ;D

Who could forget the Type J too? Although I couldn't find a decent pic. Big bonneted thing. The more I think about this, forget satin black, just slam and leave with patinated sign writing Sweet combo huh? In fact the only work in getting any old commercial to look good is in getting it proper low... But think about most of the older stuff has wheels tucked well inside the front arches, so almost like a narrowed front beam!"WE£(R*&4try8&! Deviant thoughts are running through my head... Okay, promise no banger debate? I really love the shape of this... Imagine it slammed.

Theres lots of old bonneted trucks which would make cool rods. Back in the 80s someone built a Ford Thames commercial into a pickup, roughly US pickup sized proportions when he'd finished. Morris Commerical and Commer also built some great bonnetted HGVs which would make great rods. Probably the easiest thing would be to find a Frod F250 or something like that with a shot cab and drop the older body over it. I always wanted to build a Bedford TJ truck hot rod when I was a kid. They did a light weight (1/4 ton?) version in the early 60s running a Vauxhall Cresta straight six which was probably the nearest thing we ever got to a domestic model pickup in the US style. It was dubbed by wags as "for feathers fast" This is the heavcier truck version
