Remind me, what happens in the no-start condition?
Does the starter just not turn? Can you hear the solenoid click?
If so, it might be a starter with a bad connection inside, that requires a higher voltage to turn. The starter on my Capri went out that way without me even realising...until of course it was completely dead leaving a car show.
Still, any car with a lot of electronics really like a trickle charger when left for longer (more than a week or two), so if you have an outlet in the garage I would just add a charging socket or even fit a permanently mounted charger.
Some ECU's are even programmed not to allow the starter to turn when the voltage is low but I doubt the Scorpio is that "smart".

Hard to say, I think I hear a click, but that may just be the relay for the start inhibitor that is triggered to allow starting. I don't think this click comes from the starter. Then again, when the car normally starts I also do not feel I hear a click from the starter. It may however be overpowered by the noise of the engine actually rotating etc. I'd have to have a real good listen and compare the sound with the normal sound when it does engage.

If you need an extra pair of eyes / ears to help diagnose, please let me know.  you only need a hundred milliamp draw to kill a battery in a few weeks. It can be a small thing like a light in the trunk not turning off that you might not notice easily. |

Well, a little update from me... We've just sold our house! And we sold it pretty darned well!From the day it went online it received great interest. We had at one point 16 buyers lined up for viewings. Some expats cancelled so we were left with 12... Starting last Monday, 8 past through our house. And although many oohs and aahs were conveyed to the estate agent, no immediate bids were made... Slightly disappointing and a little against expectations. However this morning on day 8 of the listing and 2 and 3 days after viewings bids came in. And well, from there it went fast. We had a bid that was just plain and simply very very good. Sure we could have held out and waited for even more interest and even better bids, but this was very much at the level we had previously set for ourselves as a good price. And as also the conditions were in our favour, we accepted. Within hours our agent had everything moving. He'd had the details of the buyer and the contract's being drawn up... So we can now say our house is sold (under conditions). It'll be a few weeks before it is final as the buyer has the right to default if she can't get her finances in order. Add to that that our own finances for the new house came through as well today and you'll see why tonight we celebrate! We'll be dining out at our favorite Greek! And this is how our house was presented... my house |

I see your street is named Bergen op Zoomstraat, has bergen a special meaning or is it a name?
I live in a city called Bergen in Norway, so it was a bit amusing to see a street named the same.

Thanks everyone! And to answer a question: Our current house did not have a garage, which is why I rented one nearby. The new house has a garage of our own. With power(!!) and can be reached from within the house. It's not huge but it'll do fine. With my own little driveway I can also work on any car in front of the garage. And as for your question Gess... "Bergen op Zoom" is a place in the Netherlands, a small city at the border of the Noord-Brabant and Zeeland provinces (the lower left corner of the Netherlands where we have some islands). So our street is named after that. I don't know where the name bergen op zoom originally comes from as there are no "bergen" (mountains or even hills) to be found in that area. |

The Granada seems to be dead. It refused to be resurrected by attaching a charged battery! There must be something wrong. It does sort of confirm earlier beliefs that there was plenty power available but it just wouldn't turn over.
So, is the starter getting power? Is the starter stuck? All fuses concerning the bob conversion seem intact...pats recognises the key...
The garage it's in now prohibits me from properly researching the issue. It's narrow, it's cold... and if I risk pushing it out and I can't get it to run I won't be able to push it back in...
I feel frustrated and stuck. The car has had its share of issues, but it's always started first try...

Can you get to the terminals on the starter with a multimeter or test light to see if it is getting the right signals at it? Or even use a power probe as I have in the past Or there is the proper sketchy way of testig the starter by bridging the exciter wire from the starter positive terminal  |

But I already feel somewhat "guilty" for having dragged you out to my car several times in the past...you've got plenty to do yourself. I know you don't think that way though... I'm going to see what I can do and if need be I'll be sure to let you know... I know it's just the result of the last few months being a roller coaster ride, but somehow this non starting issue has hit me pretty hard. The one thing the Granada reliably did was start. I still hope it's just a battery thing, but I fear something worse. I'm sure in the grand scheme of things it will probably prove to be quite solvable. |

Sorry to hear about the starting problems. I agree with Sam that it should be something rather simple which should be solved rather easily with a few pieces of wire and a multi meter. i would ques it is a relay or the ignition lock which can be bypassed with a piece of wire.

Check that the starter is getting power first, but I would guess a new starter solves the issue. Sounds very much like my failing starter this summer.
Ignition lock is also suspect, so check for power in/out of it too.

It's got to be something simple, if the car hasn't moved I cant imagine much can have gone wrong. I am free all this weekend, the weather is supposed to be good I might even have my daily back on the road if De Turck ever get the right part in Agree, gotta be simple if you've put it in driving... I'll try and let you know well in advance if I require your assistance. |
