Yep relieved I was for sure. I'm at the stage I need to be enjoying the car not fixing it constantly so this was good. A dead-ish batter to me does not count as a real break down.
I've had optima batteries for years (red and yellow tops), but their prices are astronomical and in my experience they still break. The yellow tops should be able to handle repeatedly being drained by car stereo's, long standing with armed alarms etc. Also the big boy I still have should mean it takes quite a while for it to go dead, but in real use I've had just as much trouble with them as I have with regular car batteries. And from that I've decided to accept replacing a battery now and then. I currently have three to choose from, one of which is now either dead or empty. So I'm ok for a quite some time to come I think.

Not much happening here. Thruthfully I haven't even had the car out of the garage or the battery replaced since finding out it would at least run with a fresh battery. I'm just totally beat. But there's a strange sense of satisfaction involved.
There's a reason though... I'm looking into rehoming the Granada.
And while I'm at it I'm even nice enough to take the family! So to put it less cryptic, we're trying to buy a new house. The climate seems to be perfect for me to do so now. But there's a lot involved. Getting the best price for my current dwelling meant doing all the chores I'd been putting of for years, months or weeks depending on the job.
We've just started negotiations on a house today, which will hopefully lead to us being able to buy it. So send some good Karma my way if you feel I (my family) deserve(s) it!
We'd not gain much room in the house itself, but a garage, personal driveway and some more garden are luxuries we will be enjoying for sure.
Now if only all goes our way for a change...

Best of luck with the negotiations Alex! staying within Eindhoven? If all goes as planned we'll be moving just out of eindhoven to the next town over...But we're talking less than 5 km's from current location. It's mainly a better neighbourhood and things like the garage and larger garden that make us leave.

Thanks for your (continued) support!
Well, negotiations have been officially opened after having had a second visit/look at the property today. So we're now on high alert and hoping our proposal is acceptable to the seller... We hope to know by the end of the week whether old blue or Cossymonster as it's also know will find a new home.
If so, it'll be months before the actual move, but hey that's okay...

It does seem batteries nowadays can be very fickle things tho, and are either as good as gold or just give up Same here. If you're lucky, you get 18 months to 2 years out of one. High temperatures seem to kill them as much as low ones. A mate of mine in KL moved his Pajero battery to the back and was getting another six months out of them! Funnily enough, I got the "Gearbox Overheat" warning when I fired it up the other day, which is normally the first sign the battery's not holding its charge properly. Checked back and it's been two years, so about right.

Hey mate, we will "duim" for you!! Thanks! I'm thinking totday may be the day. First offer was thrown out without a real couter offer but an indication on where the seller would like to be. Unfortunately we think that at that number he is getting the best of the deal so we countered with two offers but with different conditions attached. This was presented to them this morning so hopefully the'll get back to us with an accepted offer. If they don't well then they are really stubborn and probably unwise as we've been the only one to come close to their wishes in 14 months. I know what I'd do if I were them! Still very exciting and frustrating times! So much so the Granada has suffered from a lack of attention lately. She's safely stored, but needs a good run!! But with wet snow falling now and more predicted for the weekend it will be at least a little longer for the old girl!

Hey mate,
Totally not my business...you know the answer.... Could you afford the house even if they would not budge? Is it the full price worth to you? If that is yes to both, just turn mom's picture to the wall and go for it.
My experience is if both questions are yes, you will be right. The difference between asking price and offered price is often (not always) not that big. On a 25 year loan the repayment difference is often not that big. Of course this is generally speaking and your case might be different.
I hope for you that you will be succesful

We got the house!!!
We would have been able and willing to pay up to their level. But as the house needs work that would have meant over paying.
In the end they excepted our final offer! So the are comfortable with it and so are we!
A link will follow when all is made a bit more legal by signing some agreements.

Brilliant news! Our longer term plan is to buy somewhere here, but out of Manila, either up in the highlands or near the coast, and I'm dreading the whole idea. I'll have to do the viewing by telescope, as if anyone sees a white face anywhere near, the price will suddenly double!

Great news Alex, market certainly seems to have started moving again. 2 houses on our street have sold recently after sitting empty for a long time.

I’ve just read all 68 pages over a week and on my free evenings. Love a good long thread to get into over time like this. I’m not even a ford fan let alone a granada fan, but i can relate to a few things.
Firstly, the BOB. My only experience of this engine was in a (bloody awful) bug eye scorpio about 10 years ago that my dad owned. I remember taking him to this excentric type chaps house to see it. He had a barn with a semi restored db4/5 and this super clean low mileage purple scorpio. He liked a project, bought it with a broken cam chain and rebuilt the engine with all genuine parts. Spent a small fortune and sold it at a loss... but bless him he was super pleased with himself. I remember the autobox was although nothing like my dsg A3 3.2 but it was bloody good for that era of car. And the car wasn’t particularly fast (gotta be 2 ton?) but it had a decent amount of torque.
Secondly, my mk2 golf project hasn’t quite been as long as yours, i feel the ups and downs where car stuff mojo is concerned. Sometimes I’ll have a good 2-3 weeks where I’m in the garage every evening on it, even in the dark, then I’ll have months where quite frankly I can’t be bothered. But when i am on it... I’m 110% on it and just can’t wait to drive it.
Also well done on getting a pad with a garage. I love having a decent driveway and a garage where i can work on it and still make it to a toilet before any “incidents” happen. Still need to install some electric in there though.
Can’t wait to see more progress. Also, I notice we’ve not seen the engine bay since its been completed. You said you put the engine cover back on? Its gotta have the cosworth badge on it!
