L10mcu thanks dude I replaced the sunroof today with a better condition one and reseated the rubber trim with sealant and it still leaked so I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I remember having to tighten the aerial in a previous fiesta. Thanks for jogging the lame memory

The work carried on this week I replaced the sunroof, the roof trims that had been butchered and filled the sun roof seal with sealent. Then find all of this was pretty much not needed as it was the arial leaking DOH !!!!! I did however give it a wash and quick polish. Ended up using the two bucket method three times before I finally got it to a reasonable state. Still needs a real good clean and polish. Whilst I was there I washed out the arches. Found the arches to be in excellent condition as the pictures will show. Cleaned up all the arches which shows the factory paint underneath. As I was rummaging around I discovered why MK3s rust so badly by the petrol filler cap. The neck for the filler cap is a perfect platform for mud to muck to sit. You have to reach right up and clean it all out. Unless you have long arms its a complete curse word to get to but it just sits there against the inner and outer wing. Jet washing wont help you literally need to put a hand up there with a hose and scoop it out to get it all which I cant see many people doing TBH. Whilst I was rooting around I discovered that there was just plain water acting as anti freeze. I decided to go the easy root and just drain some water out and top it up. Not to be. I opened the drain plug and nothing came out leaving me confused. I massaged some of the hoses and found the bottom of the radiator was clogged with rusty brown goo. Ten minutes of massaging and the gunk came out letting the water run freely. This is some of what came out. I emptied the car and flushed it for 30 minutes before filling it up with the correct antifreeze and water ratio. Left it running until the needle kept rising but the fan didnt kick in. At this point I am looking for help on this. I'm not much of a mechanic and hence I chose what I thought would be a easy restoration. The thermostat has been changed in the past and I correctly drained and flushed the rad and checked for airlocks. I am assuming the next step is replace the thermostat and the fuse for the fan ? Any other suggestions.

Today I decided to have a look at a non starting issue and the fan being on permenatly. Turns out to be a knackered alternator and bodged wiring. It's now almost cost me the same in parts and repairs as the car cost me in the first place the wife's going to kill me.

Cheers Dave she is a beauty even under the body kit no rust at all I found that mud collects on top of the fuel filler pipe and causes the rust

As a update the alternator has been replaced. The wiring faults chased back and resolderd. After much swear words found the sunroof wasn't leaking more the hinges where the bolts had corroded away replaced these and hopefully sealed it all.
