Thanks for your input I am sure I will need more advice when the time comes but until the engine is fitted I am not really worried about it. I will try and run with what I have first. I see no reason for it not to work as I can remove all wires off the pats out of the car loom 1 at a time labeling them as I go so I know where to connect it in my mk4( labeling due to all wires being brown off the pats box). If I have no joy I will have to source another ecu. This problem did put me off buying the donor car but as it was taxed and moted with sellable parts on it and located 1 mile from my house I thought it was worth the head ache that might come later. I have got nothing at all done on it today due to ebay road trips and toys r us shoping so now it will be next week before I can finish taking the 5 door apart (I hate dark nights).

Bit more progress today. Got the engine out of the mk4 Only managed a couple of hours on it but I can now clean the bay up a little as it has wax oil everywhere. Which now leaves me with the 2 engines in the garage so at least I can swop bits about on an evening.

No updates for a while so here is the little progress I have made. I offered the cvh alternator up to the zetec and it seemed to look quite good so I removed the pulley and done the same with the zetec one. Problem was the cvh one has a 15mm shaft and the zetec one is 17mm resulting in guess work to get the zetec pulley central on the cvh alternator. Well I was not happy with that so I had a mate turn me a sleeve to take up the slack. Next problem was the pulley off the zetec was thicker than the cvh item so the retaining nut was not even a full nut on even with the washer removed, Also when offered up the belt seemed to be running out. So a quick measure and I had 4mm took off the back of the pulley thus putting the belt straight and giving me the room to use the washer and get a full nut on the pulley. I have read a few guides on putting these engines in and no one mentions the pulley being too big for the shaft so perhaps I have a strange alternator, but I have read of people filing the holes out to slide the mounting across to line the belt up. Hopefully I have overcome that small problem with a lasting solution. Next up is I brought new crank seals as the gearbox end was leaking and a cambelt kit, waterpump and small oil filter. I have fitted the 1 crank seal but the clutch is contaminated and well worn so will get a new one before putting the box on. Also fitted the small filter Hopefully get the cambelt fitted tomorrow as long as I get time and may even get a clutch and bolt the box on.

Cheers I have fitted the cambelt and the waterpump but have not got a new crank pulley bolt so have had to down tools. I need a clutch, crank bolt and modify the engine mount then attach the gearbox and it's ready to drop in the bay. It may feel like I am getting somewhere then.

mate you need to use your cvh gear box and a 1600 or 1800 105 or 115 flywheel and clutch as your zetec has the mtx box with larger flywheel and these wont bolt straight in the mk4,.

Thanks for the heads up. I had just worked out the flywheel problem when looking at a clutch on ebay. Now I need a flywheel of a 105/115ps model.
Omega what model is it your breaking?

Right I managed to get a flywheel from the local ford breakers after my second visit. (I won't give them any more publicity than that as they are a terrible outfit who give terrible service). The one on the right is the one I am using and I also picked up a new clutch to go with it. I am running at around a total of £350 so far. I don't think there is much else to buy now. So after that I offered the box up bolted it on and put the zetec starter in. I was unsure weather I should use the cvh one or the zetec one so opted for the zetec item. I am now at the point where I need to modify the engine mount and it will be ready to go back in.

Cheers gingexr2t your project is ace. I have got the mount sorted today so I am all ready to drop it back in. Just need a dry day tomorrow. and fitted to check for clearance, you can see on the above pic that I had to trim a bit off as it was catching the inlet. I have put a bit of primer on the bare metal now and will give it a quick covering of black.

I'm intrested in your next stage, Ive got a 130 and engine loom and inlet to go on my black top. Ive labeled the loom and need to unpick it to remove the stuff I don't need. I'm pretty sure what I need to keep sensor wise, but it will be nice to see what you use. cheers paul.

paulus you seem about as wise as me on the wiring side, I will get to it in the next couple of weeks.
jonboisescort I have never heard of anyone using a puma linkage have I been under a rock? Is it a straight fit?

I have done a bit today but it is a bit. Going back a few months I brought some smoked rear lights off a guy in Rugeley and while I was there I picked up a tank and pump off the rs turbo he was breaking. I brought them as they were cheap and thought they would come in handy later, I paid £30 I think for the lights and the tank/pump. So tonight I split the pump from the rusty mounting bracket. I thought I would end up cutting the holder off but it came off really easy. Also gave it a polish. I have ordered a universal mounting that will hopefully replace the rusty ford item which I had no mounting rubbers for anyway. Fingers crossed the new mount will work. I then thought I would have a look at the tank, to start with I thought the best option would be a new repro one. But on looking inside it is suprisingly clean and rust free. Poor pic but you get the idea. So I have started cleaning the outside up and will give it a paint. Don't want to put it on looking minging, should look good when your following behind when painted with the polished pump infront of it.

Well I painted the tank and fitted it along with the pump. I then turned my attention to the exhaust, the old system was rotten and was a smaller bore than the zetec one and as I didn't want to restrict it I got rid of the old one and have gone for a standard rs turbo series 2 system. I had it lying about apart from a down pipe which you can still get new at £40. The rear box is now obsolete which is a shame as its the bit you see but I may tidy this one up once it runs. I offered it all up to see where it needed cutting and welding, Inside shows that the new system is just big enough to slide over the zetec down pipe. All fitted now. Will need to get it on a ramp and add an extra hanger on it once I am on the road. These escort exhausts seem to drop by themselves so that should cure that. Also done what I can in the engine bay apart from wiring and air filter. So I have decided to take the dash out to put the ecu and loom in and I have noticed it needs a bit of welding by the drivers seat mount. So the inside needs stripping out. Thankfully it is solid everywhere else. Dash out next.
