On the insurance note, if the owner sells the car to you, their insurance becomes invalid as they are no longer the legal owner of the vehicle, so even if you have a fully comp policy that lets you drive other peoples cars you still won't be covered. If you get stopped by the police and they ask you if you own the vehicle and you say "yeap, just bought it" they will impound the car if it is not insured by you under your own policy.

You don't have to own a vehicle to have a valid insurance policy on it. Yes, that is true but the owner would have his insurance with him as the registered keeper, as soon as that's changed then the insurance is invalidated!!
