Hey Guys,
I'm wondering if anyone knows any good, traditional breakers in Yorkshire?
I like the ability to take my tools down and remove the parts myself.
I used to live in Rotherham with Wilf Jays being great for this sort of thing. I'm finding more and more breakers want you to buy the parts over the counter.

What used to be Simpson Salvage at Full Sutton (just East of York) has now become 'u-pull-it' and, looking at their website, it seems to be a self-service like its name suggests. When it was Simpson's it was a huge and well-organised affair with mostly modern stuff but there were often a few more interesting things most times I went.
Failing that Storwood Autos (just outside the village of Melbourne) is southwest of York and was a proper old-style place packed with well-rotten classics. It's located in an old P.O.W. camp just to add extra interest but the owners never welcomed sight-seeing! I don't know if it's changed or even if it's still going.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm trying to source some parts for my MK3 Golf, so the former mentioned salvage yard may be of use :-)

Simo's should have Mk3 Golfs, they have most other stuff and pretty good prices. Theres one in Strensall (North of York) which I believe is still active, although not sure of its status in regards to what they'll let you do. They did tend to have the older stuff (only place I could find bits of Bluebird) but they may have been forced to adhere to H+S now and not stack the cars on top of one another (you know the sort of 'proper' scrappie)

There's two or three breakers with self service on Thorpe Lane in Middleton (south Leeds), one of them is called simpsons or simos if it's still open

8tee8 is bob on with the 3 on Thorpe Lane, Middleton. Although, I think only one or two of them are 'old school' now and the third has gone all H+S.
It could also be worth trying Smashing Vdubs in Leeds centre as they seem to have plenty of Mk3's and later in, though they never seemed to have anything in for the Mk2 when Ive been there before...

A.A Whiteways and Simpsons on Thorpe Lane are always my first scrapyard of choice. Simpsons has more 80s/early 90s tat in normally, give em a bell and see what they've got.
