hi everyone,
I'm after a new car and am a bit stuck what to get
i have around 1300 pounds to spend, not alot i know... like old saloons (not stuff like mondeo's or 405's)
currently drive a 2ltr 8v mk3 golf which i find a little bit underpowered for the roads i use, and hasnt got anything electric in at all lol...
don't suppose anyone could suggest decent size diesel cars? ive been thinking about getting a mercedes c220 cdi or a bmw 525 tds but budget limits me a bit.
was thinking about going mad and getting a jaguar xj6 x300 but then my sensible head kicked in and said buy something that does more than 25mpg.
if anyone has any suggestions on what there is out there, it would be appreciated.

730i or iL? VERY cheap and not too bad on fuel. I'd go for a Senator A 3.0CD but I guess it depends how old you want to go and what toys you want.

I got a 96 740 BMW with LPG for half your budget. Needed some work but it's a lot of car for the money

Theres massive amounts of choice with what your spending really. Audi 100, bmw various, Senators not a bad shout or a carlton gsi, curve ball citroen xm or even a granada there's literally too many to chose from but for your money you should be able to find a pretty decent one.

Mercedes w210 e300td. Can be found everywhere, do about 35mpg, has 177hp and will put you back in your seat when you use them. Most of them have electric everything, but the only downside is that it is as ugly as sin. (Not that it matters when you outdrag the boy racers!)

^^ I'll second that. The Honda Legend is another absolutely beans-cheap option as well J-speaking.
An e32 big 7 can be had for a barg although the running costs are not ideal.

thanks for all the suggestions some nice cars have been suggested in this thread, my favorite so far being the merc 3 litre turbodiesel suggestion as has poke as well as ok fuel ecomony, not so much into 4wd's prefer saloons, lexus and 7 series also nice but a bit high insurance wise unfortunately, all the ideas here are great though
