I might shell out on the rebuild for my 200bhp essex Is it really worth it?
IIRC 200bhp from an essex engine is expensive. Sell it and get a modern engine (which probably gives 200bhp as standard).
it was built to turn 200+bhp when the engine was built about 10 or so years ago, a bottom end freshen isn't as expensive as tuning one to 200 brake. it probably cost £3k back then, probably about £4-5k nowadays a grand for heads, £400 for roller rockers, it gets more frightening by the minute!
jonnysierra- I'm determined not to go down the well trodden rodders path of "stick an 8 innit", just not in my vocab but thanks for the offer
scaryoldcortina- think a 164 might be easier and even cheaper to find for the v6, pretty good engines from what I hear. sound like banshee's too ;D its not a bad idea.....
I'm not sure what to do ATM
1) sell the car, I HATE selling cars.
2) rebuild the powerhouse and stop moaning. once the money runs out I'm sure I could get a cardboard box to sleep in on the cheap!
3) swap in something interesting, out of the box and surprise the heck out of everyone.
or maybe....
4) stick with the stock engine and since I can't race it anymore, stick it on hydros
for some funny reason I'm torn between no.3 and no.4 ;D
