Ok petrol heads looking for idea's I not happy with my 1.6 avenger estate or 1.4 orion need something with a bit more go power. So looking for pre 1991 (classic insurance) Under 1549cc (cheap road tax) Somethig that will return 26+ to the gallon (as thats what I get from mine round town). Petrol or diesel Standard car don't mind small mods like boost gauge or bigger fuel pumps preffer estate (but consider large hatch or saloon) suggestions please Triumph Acclaim / Honda Ballade / Rover 213 (all basically the same) 1.3 - 70bhp, not fast but not slow Pre 1991 40-45mpg easy Manual or TrioMatic 4-door saloon Cheap - <£1k Only thing is some parts are hard to get, but you see them broken up a lot so can find bits. I sort of fancy another come to think of it. 1983 Triumph Acclaim by RSdesignUK, on Flickr

Road tax for the 111i is £130 odd a year. 45mpg too but not on classic insurance. I guess a K-series Metro would be the same, and the A-Series Metro to. The 1.3 Turbo could be fun! Could get a K-series 1.4 GTi with the same tax, supposed to be reasonably lively.

EDIT, found the proper info:
Car first registered before 1 March 2001
For cars first registered before 1 March 2001 car tax is based on engine size as official CO2 data is not available.
Engine 1549cc or smaller – 2012/13 rate = £135 per year (£130 in 2011/12) Engine bigger than 1549cc – 2012/13 rate = £220 per year ( £215 in 2011/12)

They are not, that applies to cars from 1973 to 2001, then tax free before 1973.

There was a 1.5i Honda Civic in the mid '90s with variable cam, 2dr saloon, 5dr hatch and 5dr estate. The early '90s Civics got a 1.5i too - infact i once had a 1986 Civic 1.5GT so bigger bodied versions may go back to the '80s.
Not quite a TypeR, the mid 90s one, but i'm finding figures of 128bhp in a car little more than a ton.. Can't be right, that's a power to weight ratio of a BMW 120i

I bought one when My boy was born so I could get the pram and sounds in car, but saloons and sound systems don't work. In the Orion I fold the back seats down to let the 6x9s breath.

Remember, 2 things, you get cheaper insurance if you ate fully comp, and the best profession to put down is unemployed

Best get a job then

Best get a job then I told my insurance broker I was made redundant, They tried to cacel my policey Adrian Flux that was. Soon sorted it though, bloody holes. Your out of work we are going to cancel your policey and you don't get any refund. Then will start you a new policey at £700 ? erm Ive not got any income and not saved enough to take out a fesh policey. Threaten them with ongressman as they where well in the wrong. ;D They fcked up before as theytried to withdraw my policey as I couldnt supply certificate of cat 1 alarm imb. YetI had informed them that a disc lock was only security. again I won that as It was there mistake and they should play back the recording of the qoute.

What's an ongressman? Is there such a thing as an E30 TDS!?
All these strange questions are twisting my melon.
I can't see the issue, there are a million retro-sub £1k-reasonably spritely-5 door or estate car shaped vehicles out there. Choose one you like and buy it. Simples!
My recommendation would be an e30/e34 touring, merc TE, Saab 9000/c900, Volvo 740, B3 passat wagon or Audi 80 Avant tdi off the top of my head but the list goes on... And on...
