Smiler, if you're concerned about weight, rest assured that the Rover V8 is not a heavy engine. The cast iron four-cylinder engine in the MGB is actually heavier than a Rover V8. Besides this, the fact that Triumph themselves felt comfortable putting the Rover V8 into the TR7 demonstrates that it's a suitable swap.

I'm with you on the graffiti for a tin top. Do the roof panel and the sides below the scoop in graffiti and paint the rest in a suitably contrasting plain colour like white, or lime green, and it could look really good. Getting the graffiti design right is the tricky part really, it will make or break it. Now that's not a bad idea, it could help preserve the lines of the car. I might have to learn how to use photochop! As for engines, I suppose it'll come down to what's available for what kind of money and the weights involved. I would consider using the Cosworth V6 sat in the front of my slightly shabby Cortina but it's a bit lardy and I haven't yet checked the state of the timing gear. Best hurry up and get that blumin Escort finished! |

Those JPS-esque models looks gorgeous (the model in the white suspenders isn't too bad either) and the rally versions are just heroic! Why-oh-why have I wasted so many years and so much money on a worthless mk3 Escort Cabrio?

Does anyone know of any good TR7 technical websites or build sites? I seem to be struggling with google. Go onto the forum at Triumphtr7.com, you will get loads of help there, some very knowledgeable people about and not at all stuffy like many single car forums. Even the 2.0 8 valve goes quite well with a decent exhaust etc or you can pick up a converted V8 for not too much dosh.    |

Yes, I saw that too. It works well by complimenting the shape whilst remaining recognisable so shouldn't go out of fashion.
The ex-works car is tempting, anyone want a kidney?

Hmmmm, an awkward on that one. The front and rear bumper do seem work for me but there's something not quite right about the sill additions. Though if it didn't have something there I think it would look a bit unbalanced.

What about the t16 out of the 620 turbo. that should be a relatively easy conversion as I think it was based on the o series.

The T16 was based on the O Series which IIRC was in turn based on the B Series. T Series should be doable for cheap usable power  . For me, a tuned Sprint engine on ITBs would be great, or a lightweight modern engine like say a Duratec 2.0 . Although as said earlier, the ancillaries on many TR7s will be tired, making an adequate engine look near pathetic. Their low values will not help in people fixing the issues either . Saying that, a CA18DET in a TR7 would be interesting! |
