Right it's been ages since ive done any work on the beetle, and with a new job and other projects getting worked on the bug was looking sorry for itself. So i got my mojo back for bug love and over the past coupe of days ive fitted a new beam "old one was at best scrap" and sorted the rims out. It's been a pain but the end is near, so here's the only two pic's i took before my phoned died, enjoy :-)

Right, since ive got the week off i'm gonna work like mad to get the bug finished and moted by friday. Since ive put my golf up for sale i need to get the bug on the road. So far the list of bits that need doing go like this,
One patch of welding on the drivers sill.
Bleed the brakes.
Refit the fuel tank.
Wire up the front lights.
Sort the steering lock out
Replace the rear tyres.
That's it! :-D
Then mot time and after that enjoy!

Right - after another fantastic retro rides gathering and getting the chance to run up the hill climb, a new and more powerful engine is needed for the bug.
The reason for more power is umm well it's a must, and the fact the current '1200cc' engine is running like a pig and runs on 3 cylinders most of the time :-\ So I've been thinking about engines, and what to put in the bug. Part of me wants to keep it air cooled, but for big power it's gonna cost, i.e. to build a 1300cc into a 1641cc with the cost of new cylinder heads, barrels and pistons, twin Webber carbs and a few others bits is close to £1000.
Another choice is a water cooled engine, Subaru ej20, Audi 5 pot, Volvo v6, golf 4 pot turbo but to name a few, but it does mean running a Radiator, pipework, ECU and upgrading the gearbox that will cope with the power too.
I do like the idea of fitting a fiat coupe 20v turbo engine ;-)

I hear a Porsche engine just bolts right in ;-) Hahaha yeah, that's what folks at work keep saying. Along with 'Jamie Oliver has one with a Porsche engine you know'
