It's a laborious task, I did mine a couple of years back, and thanks to shoddy prep, had to strip the lot thanks to microblistering everywhere. I found a polycarbide wheel in a drill or grinder great at removing the paint and rust. Only downside is the dust gets everywhere, so the less stuff in the garage the better, especially if you're going to paint in there too.
