I was bored of my daily diesel so started to think about my youth and the old ford rust bombs I owned ,I have owned a few lol ,I always wanted a 2 door GT or Lotus cortina but never found one ,They seemed more rare in 86-87 than now , Anyway few years went by nothing came up ,I had a clear garage ...but no car ? Back in the late 80's I always had a project kicking about ,What happened ? Women and kids!!!Well Skip a few years and a few hairs and here we go again ,I have been doing cars on and off and welding other peoples up but forgot my own real passion ,No wonder I got fat and bald !Welding etc is my best bit ,As for the electrics well I get by asking questions ,Prepare for more requests lol Anyway ....Enough waffle about me .Heres my Cortina ,I bought it in March 2012 after a short search around the forums , It had a v8 Rover motor bodged in ,And no way was I riding around in it like that ,,,It's a pretty good shell 'Now' .Main bits to replace was the bulkhead heater panel area ,Gearbox tunnel and full drivers side floor ,Both front footwells ,Both inner and outer sills along with both front and rear valances ,Arches rear corners etc etc ...I am Not far off finishing the welding so thought it time to post a thread here ,I have posted in other forums but most people seem more interested in Escorts these days ... Heres a few pictures how it started off          replaced bulkhead from 2 donor cars  tunnel will be modded later ,Just getting it solid   Excuse the mess   |

Holy mother of wibblepoo fabbing/welding on the tunnel, glad your chopping that out  Bloody nice pre air flow though bud! I've always wanted a 2 door tina preferably a mk1 pre! Envious= That'll be me What engine/box are you going to use |

St170 with type 9 ,Yes the fab work was a little crude ,But each person adds there own touches to a car and that had to go lol

Welcome to the mid life crisis forum, l too have chosen restoring old car over another women!! Huge amount of fab welding there and all done since march quality , take it the floor panel is remanufacture and you didn't have to make it yourself? ST170 will be interesting Got to love that old school v8 conversion with the patchwork trans tunnel bet everything else was stock like brakes etc. Remember a mate of mine who put v8 into ha van just took old engine out and plonked the v8 in and welded it in place even welded the prop in sichue!!! We've all done it peice of 4x2 holding up the car and meant to make proper support later |

Cheers guys ,My trade was welding i do a bit ,Thats not the best lol
Its a simple clarke 135 turbo .8mm wire co2 .All sorts of settings depends
what I'm doing ...

Looking good. Gotta love a cortina (owning a '68 mk2 estate I am biased lol) and ook forward to seeing how you get on with the st170 engine.

It's good to see you reversing the bad work and replacing it with good My dad's Mk1 has a Zetec in it and it goes like a dream. That's going to be a nice runabout when you've finished |

Thanks again guys , always nice to here there's other Cortina owners about I Did a bit more today ,Basically removed the valance galv zinc applied Then tacked it back on correctly ,I had to ad a few bits of metal here and there to make it fit correctly .Bonnett gaps are not bad and I offered the old wings up to make sure it all looked ok .Will weld it in place tomorrow once the primer goes off properly. Each little bit Gets me a step closer to driving her |

Hiya! I take it you're SteveL from the owner's club forum It's very nice to see your Mk1, it's going to be pretty awesome when finished! I'm really enjoying your build,wonderful workmanship. Is this the one you're on about? It's the only Zetec engined Cortina I took a photo of so not sure if there were others.  |

The Zetec one I was talking about was there from Friday evening til Sunday, perhaps the bonnet was just closed, the colour was something like dark metallic purple. I don't think it's this one ^^^, but yeah you should come camping I slept in the Tina the whole week-end and it was good fun |
