meh, i steals daves typezors While I was away in Northern Ireland last week Surprising_Skoda showed me this collection of old Skodas at an ex dealer. Most of them are beyond saving realistically, but I reckon even those ones are too good to throw away as there are lot's of good spares on them. What do you think of the idea of a Skoda Owners Club event where we drive over with some tools and a van or 3 and strip the unsaveable ones of any good parts? The Club could keep the parts in stock and sell them as needed to help keep the cars that are left on the road. It wouldn't be easy, but it would be quite a fun event/get-together, and help to save some rare cars/parts. as a quick guide there also resides in this yard a VW santana, mint 90s jetta, talbot samba, bm 520 (e28?) subaru 1.6 metro and a burnt out carina amongst others... all equally spare-provideable, with the downside of the owner of the yard thinking they are worth something... anyhow, Dave's trying to arrange a bit of a group to pull together and get over to NI and dig a few of these out. anyone in need of a hol (at least, tell the wife it is...)

Well, I'm not sure if this is going to be a Skoda Owners' Club scheme or not, it'll be discussed at the next Committee meet. Either way I can't let all that stuff be scrapped without at least trying! Surprising Skoda [Will] and I have been talking, and we've provisionally set a date for the week beginning 29th January. I've managed to borrow a diesel Transit van to carry the parts and tools in.
My personal preference is to make it a Skoda Owners' Club parts scheme, as it would give potential members another reason to join, and help retain existing members.
If that's not the case I will be buying the parts at my expense and will sell them on personally to anyone that needs them. It is not a profit making excersise, in fact it will be costing me money, wether it's done through the Club or not. My aims are simply to help keep the remaining old Skodas going by saving parts that would otherwise be scrapped, AND to do the Skoda Owners' Club some good if it ends up as I'd like it to.
I need help! Anyone fancy a trip to Ireland? PLEASE!

ps, i'll further that with the fact that, albeit cramped, there is free, warm space offered to crash in my living room (remembering i have a 5y.o. sister tho so not too many party nights unless you want to sleep in the van/shed) also i have plenty of space, actually a garden you could pitch 4 2ppl tents on... and a sheeted car transporter and a VERY large list of locations to check out and will have a large area cleared that we will be able to strip down cars, should be able to get 4 in at a time. no reason not to then provided you have about £25 for foot passanger fees at ferry (between van and my car can transport everyone from ferry) and can get a few days off work, even if you want to arrive a few days later than others... PLUS we have great roads and 20 speed cameras or less in the whole country

Due to unforseen circumstances I'll now be going to Ireland on Sunday on my own, so if anyone wants a free ferry ride to Ireland and is handy with a spanner, please say so!
