Well I was searching for a semi solid GTI for almost 6 months, almost packed it in and got a mk4 Golf family wagon, luckily for my sanity but unluckily for my wallet I found this. Had it for a month, not missed a beat yet! Its relatively solid, needs some work to the rear sill and a bit in the rear inner arch. Pics from the for sale advert: Plans are: New front discs and pads. Sort the dodgy pattern exhaust! Chase some rust before winter. Tidy up the interior. General tidy up and daily it. James.

Looks like a nice example, far better than a mk4 Golf! Do these have a version of the 4A-GE engine?

I've got Rovers.

Yeah they seem to love to rust just as much as they like to rev, I've had a good dig about, othing too major, but they do seem to rust from inside out!

So had this about a month, first thing to do was to sort the manky number plates from: to: and rear Also hit this mini milestone: And picked up all this lot for £1!! Hidden at the bottom of a bag was a brand new oil filter, fuel filter, dizzy cap, rotor arm and water pump! Not to mention a full TVIS engine, 2 x inlet manifolds, 2 x ECU's, 2 x Looms, 2 x sets of engine mounts, not to mention a box of un-identiafable bits and pieces! Chuffed isn't even the word, felt guilty so sent the lad an extra £10! You can also see the fire extinguisher I've fitted in the boot, just to be on the safe side! James

Picked up four Toyo Proxes CF1's with 7-7.5mm tread left for £50, got to be an improvement over the mismatch of Goodyear upfront and almost dead Pirelli and ditch finder special on the rear! At the moment I'm tip toeing round damp roundabouts at 15mph as the rear end loves to step out on these and its exasperated by the shocking tyres! Apologies for the shocking iPhone photos, I'm buying a new digital camera at the weekend!! James.

Loved my old GTI-16... looks like you've found a reasonably rust free one! Mine was so rusty, if you parked it on a hill with more than £10 of petrol in it ( about 12 litres it was 2003!) it would flow out like a river!

Yeah its reasonably rust free, though it does hide its issues quote well, all will be sorted before winter! Need to get on with sorting the front pads and discs and also getting the new tyres fitted, but the birth of my daughter has been a very, very welcome distraction from all things cars!

Well I managed to find 5 mins while everyone else in the house was having a well deserved rest! Swopped from this manky worn and 'sticky' original gear knob: To this eBay, possibly TRD special: Progress will be slow for the forseeable future, although I do have just over a week and a half off James.

Alright mate, I've just sneaked on at nap time, but I'll try have a root about later this afternoon, I'm 98% sure that I don't have one, but I've been exhausted recently so my memory is quite shot! If I've got one you can have it for postage as I'm running a non-TVIS. Have you got a Readers Rides thread? I'll have to check it out! James

On another not, ordered my front discs and pads, also got some new oil, seam sealer for the arches and some underseal! Just got to find some time when I'm not exhausted to get everything sorted!! James.
