1982 W123 280E Auto.
Tax - Jan 2013
Mot - August 2012
Previously owned by a company that provides chauffeur driven cars for Weddings and TV, Birkdale Classics (http://www.birkdaleclassics.co.uk). Apparently it was then owned by a guy that worked for a retro car mag and there's apparently a feature of it when he lowered it - haven't managed to verify that or find the article though.
I've got loads of old history with it and all the original books and manuals etc.
It's Taxed until 31st Jan 2013, MOT'd until August 2012. Ideally I'd put a new MOT on it to advertise for sale, but really don't have the time and need the space.
I've driven it 700 miles over the last week, had a meeting in Sheffield and decided to go in the Merc. From there I went to Manchester and then back to West Sussex. It didn't miss a beat, get hot while sat stationary for hours on the M25 or cause me any problems. I was also really surprised that it averaged 26MPG for the trip - so nowhere near as bad as people possibly presumb.
It's lowered 3 coils on the front and 2 on the rear. Tyres are lower profile too - 195/70 rear but 195/60/14 on the front.
It has a custom stainless exhaust system that's doesn't have as many silencers. This means the exhaust is tucked up out of the way more - it also obviously sounds loads better.
Things I know are wrong with it:
Heated rear window doesn't seem to work - haven't investigated.
Passenger rear electric window doesn't go down - again, haven't investigated.
Electric sunroof has the common problem where the drive belt has greased up. The motor works and you can hear it driving in both direction. The belt slips though and the roof doesn't move. You can open it manually still, and sorting the belt is apparently an easy fix.
Rear suspension arm bushes are worn - probably something that might get picked up on an MOT as they have a bit of play. You hear them clunk when it's changing back down the box when you're slowing to a stop.
I'd have no qualms jumping in it and driving it to the South of France - I'm confident it's mechanically really good. The engine bay's a bit oily - I think it weeps from the rocker gasket but doesn't seem to use loads of oil or anything.
Other than that - it's a 30 year old car - the bodywork isn't bad - it's obviously had a full paint at some point, I think when Birkdale owned it. Like almost all W123s it's got a few rusty spots here and there. I like this sort of genuine patina, but you should be aware it's not a show queen. I don't want show queen money though.
Bearing in mind the MOT being close to expiry, I'd like £900 please.
I don't want to get into text tennis - if you're interested please PM me, email @ .co.uk or ring XXXXXXXXXXX
