Firstly an apology as this should probably in the for sale and wanted section. But I kind of needs these like yesterday so have put it here as I for one don't check that section everyday. I will pay my pennance in due course. Hi people. My little DAF is currently in for MOT and is booked in to its first show for 4 years on Sunday. The problem is the head lamps bulbs have blown and because its 6v I cant get the parts quickly enough. The idea of missing a prebooked show for the sake of a couple of bulbs is a painfull one. The car uses the 410 bulb, which is the same I believe as is used on 6v VW beetles. If anyone could lend or sell me a couple to use for tomorrows test I would be eternally gratefull. I am based in Lampeter West Wales. Please help. Paul

Mask the lamps and ask for a daylight only test, then fix it next week when you have the bulbs

Handily, it's section 1.1 page 1 in the manual. (edit - also 1.7 page 1). Mask out front sidelights and headlights, disconnect rear sidelights (assuming they are the same lens as the brakelight*) and it should pass as daylight use only (an advisory). *strictly speaking, you can mask over the brakelight and reflectors as well and still pass for daylight I don't recommend it though!

I was going to suggest a daylight mot, but putting that into google just brought up loads of motorbike forums, so like BL1300, i thought it must only be for bikes

Hmm, how about using a fine saw blade to cut a 12v bulb into two?

Get the gaffa tape out and mask the relevent units, leave the brake alone for safety's sake. If the tester won't believe you tell him to press F5 on the VTS device and read 1.1 for himself.

Cant you just fit 12v bulbs temporarily? far as i remember they wont draw extra current or do anything dodgy they just wont glow very brightly.

Well I got the bulbs this morning and SWMBO insisted on stopping for a coffee in aberystwyth on the way back which resulting in me missing the garage by 3 mins. As a result she really is now in the dog house!

Bah, bad luck.
If you'd just used the gaffa tape you would have a MoT by now!
