Right then - largely finished off yesterday... Hinge drilled and fitted; Fitted; Hinged; Still needs some sort of fixing to stop flipping all the way over, plus the grille refitting, and re-fit the spring fasteners/add bonnet pins. Happy with that though...

Wowzers, shes looking good! I like what you've done and top quality work too. I always felt a bit guilty not being able to give it the time it deserved but I miss that noise like mad!

I must admit I did wonder what you might think to me doing this her; I'm glad you approve though! Here's how she stands at the moment - grille has been stripped of black paint (think it might need a coat of silver yet, depends how it holds up) and obviously I need either the bumper refitting or just the numberplate;

No its grand, probably along the lines of what I'd have done if swmbo hadn't insisted it was an appropriate car for us with a baby... Hmm, I like the front as is. I vote front bumperless, but keep the rears.

I think i agree - I like it bumperless (and the work that went into sraying it makes me less than keen to drill holes in it for the bumper).
However from above it looks unbalanaced (then again who is ever going to see it from above)
Think I'll just velcro the front plate on for now...

So the Midget has been largely unchanged since last years RRG, however during the usual 'Phil - she's failed the MOT again, can you do some welding for me' request around Christmas time (thanks again LowStandards - much appreciated!) it was suggested we change her up a touch. So, first up - photos of some of the remedial work... A little bit of grinding... Look at the delight on LowStandards face at the task ahead... Progress... Welded ....and filled, sanded and primed... Reversing lights didn't work. So, as they are not needed for an MOT, they were duly removed... ...and obviously then ground back, filled and primed. Ready for stage 2..........

And so Stage 2..... At the end of July, aware that RRG15 was fast approaching, i was kindly offered the use of Mr S garage for some paint work. With the ever helpful LowStandards helping (read: doing most of it whilst i pi$$ed around making Darth Vader noises through my new paint mask) we set to prepping the car ready for the respray... One or two patches that needed prep work... And on with the filler primer; Flatting this back before we begin the new colour... And a final one of my willing assistant/sprayer/mechanic/welder/long suffering mate and Midget fixer, LowStandards; And finally, a hint of what's to come on the door shuts and slam panel.... That's it for now - I'll be driving her to RRG15 with the new paint and wheels, so I'll stick the final photos on after this coming weekend. Suffice to say it will be hard to miss it as it's not a shy colour....

So....here she was at the Gathering over the weekend. Sadly I didn't stay for much of the afternoon (not least due to leaving the roof down on the show field, then being at the top of the hill climb when the biblical rain fall came. Suffice to say both myself and the interior were drenched by the time i got back to the car to put the roof up). It was a soggy ride home, made worse by the fact i had water pouring through the top of the dash - missing gaskets on the wiper arms tend to help with such things as heavy rain...!). Also, my apologies to the chap with the umbrella who stood talking to me just after the rain came - I'm not normally that unfriendly; I was just getting a bit cold due to being soaking wet! Thank you for coming over and chatting about it though - always nice to know someone is taking an interest in the car

Also, in case anyone is wondering, the wheels are Jensen Healey items - same PCD as the Midget, but needed custom nuts with separate collars to fit.
Happy with the look though, although I might need a little arch work as they were catching on the way home....

Just thought I'd add the final few photos of the respray here - alas due to the poor weather on show day at RRG i didn't really get a huge number of photos (thanks to those who did snap it though - always nice when someone else takes a photo!). And resting, after a tedious journey to RRG '15 (driving for 3 hours in stop start traffic with a borked accelerator pedal isn't particularly fun..!) So what next? Sort the accelerator pedal (obviously), new roof, new interior panels & carpets as the paint makes the rest of the car look a bit rubbish. Maybe a different grille (since the mesh one looks a bit cheap n' nasty), and probably sort out the valve guides as I'm told I'm chuffing out a a fair amount of burning oil when driving. Still, she's getting there..!

I'm glad this popped up in the other Midget thread otherwise I would have missed it entirely. The colour and those wheels are absolutely perfect and had you not said what they were I doubt I would ever have recognised the wheels. What a superb little car, it's earned a bookmark.

Agree with Vulgalour, this is a great looking car and glad it popped up in the other thread. I keep getting ideas about a Midget for a track car! They just seem to have bucket loads of potential and this one proves it Oh, and as you said it I agree with you about the grill, the original one would look better I think.

Sad to see it moved on, I hope its story continues positively with the new owner.
