It could be considered as such but we were fully equipped to manufacture bacon sarnies and tea.
I think a pub stop at this stage may have required much refreshment and an overnight stay.

Well after some thought and a few brainstorms, Operation Phil Doesn't Want To Weld Up An Old Discovery Any More Because It's Getting Out Of Hand or as everyone else is calling it "That'll never work again" is officially underway. Take one 300 Discovery with a rusty body and one TD5 with a non rusty body and a dead engine and make one really rusty vehicle. No, one non rusty vehicle. There's an easy way and a hard way to do this. I'm pitching somewhere in the middle I think. Sent from my ever hopeful planning toilet using proboards

Today, real progress was made rather than all that theoretical nonsense. Front end stripped from the donor. Rear bumper off too. Compared a few bits now it's more visible . Rear bumper brackets need making and I'll have to do something pedal boxy shortly. Aside from the brake pipes the donor is now ready to shed it's body. All the bolts are undone and the wiring is all off. Not long until the red one gets stripped.

Great conversion!
My brother started with a (very slightly) older 200Tdi Disco 1 but obviously, there are not many differences - has a 300Tdi in it now anyway!
(picture links to a mini build thread in case that's any help at all) [/

Here's an example of what I'm trying to get away from. There was a battery tray in there once.

Today has been a Discovery day of discoveries. .. or something. Now, the truck gas served us very well for off road duties, towing, holiday transport east and west, recovery transport as far afield as Scarborough, epic road trips and the like. I have had to spend many a joyous hour welding it up but in general it's always looked tidy and stayed roadworthy. Due to the imminent swap, I've progressed with the strip down. Offside sill, normally behind plastic trim. Nearside sill base of B post And A post Offside rear storage and footwell vent. Boot floor. I'd like to say this is an isolated example of a rough old truck but it just isn't. This is a normal example of a 1994 Land Rover. Just wait until I get the dashboard out of it. Discovery 2s just don't do this (Although the chassis rot is incredible). I can't describe how much I'm looking forward to getting this sorted.

More today at lunchtime. Got the rest of the TD5 A/C system out of the engine bay. I'll be fitting the proper TDI setup at a later date. This is the redundant engine harness! Normally full of oil anyway due to the awful design and poor quality. Slightly less cluttered TD5 hole. Gotta get some of this in that hole. Speaking of holes. I need to modify the TD5 pedal box to take the cable throttle pedal and clutch master from the TDi. Brake servo will go straight on. I also pulled the active cornering wiring ready for removal and the auxiliary trailer socket wiring so I can tidy it all up when I've assembled the D1.5 into something resembling my vision. I'm slightly disappointed to have not already removed the old shell. The problem is I suffer from chronic back problems and currently have some rather painful issues with my ribs (the right side is all locked up) but it only hurts when I breathe.
This means the pace at which I can proceed is limited to say the least.
Anyway, the plan is as follows.
Body off the old one, throw away.
Replace clutch (since its easy to do)
Paint and generally tart up chassis.
Roll TD5 into neighbouring workshop with 2 post lift.
Lift body and roll out chassis
Roll in my chassis and lower body
Bolt together.
Drive off into sunset.
The complications to this are as follows.
Swap drive by wire to cable
Delete ABS and ACE redundant bits
Get A/C plumbed and working with the climate control etc
Fit TDI instrumentation and make it all work
Try to confuse BCU (I have T4/Test book so shouldn't be a problem)
Make it all appear as tidy as possible
As it turns out, it might need a windscreen so I'll get a heated one in. All wiring is present so it's just fit a switch a turn that feature on in the body control unit.
There'll be more.

Looking forward to this, 'if' you run into problems (other than the back issues) will it be explained with the aid of MS Paint (again) as that is just an highly professional communication tool!

I reckon this is up to 20 hours now. That's not including the doubling or tripling of man power for a few hours, just overall time. This morning I got up extra early and got to work just a little early. Fired up the jet wash and got the chassis really clean. Nice and sunny and a bit breezy so it dried off in no time. Then it rained. A lot. This meant time to sort the pedals. Simply cut TDI accelerator pedal off, weld to TD5 pedal box and make cable hole, fit pedal box, realise brake pushrod fitting is different, remove pedal box, swap brake pedals, refit again again. This evening, for a nice indoor job, it's been find some waxoyl and slosh it on. Was going to do clutch but it's working fine and I really can't be bothered. Unnecessary expense at the moment. Time to get that body on.... Sent from my toilet using proboards

As it turns out, this might not fit in the workshop we're using for the swap.
When I say "might" and "fit in" I mean probably won't come back out due to the height and the size of the door....

Looks like loads of fun! I used to have a 5 door D1 quite similar to yours though my body was rotted in the engine bay in front of the wheel arches, all else was good. I ended up selling it so someone could use the V8 in a project car, but not before I could have some offroad fun.

I was just going to say I'd be interested in the rear 2 door wings but see you have rolled the body over so assume they are now mangled My 5 door 300TDi auto has duff rear body so I intend making it into a pick-up and the wings would have been ideal to modify for that purpose.
