Hi to all, guessing this is best place to put it, hast anyone used a tablet as their in-car entertainment system. I'm considering getting one instead of a radio and having it so it can sit in infront of my gearstick in a custom mount and have a wire plugging into the headphone slot that goes to an amplifier. Idea of this is so I can have an uncluttered interior and have this in place instead, it will also mean I can have movies, music, photos etc but I can also unclip it from the car an use it at home, my uni flat or in uni itself. Also anyone familiar with tablets (not necessarily in the car), can you get Sat Nav apps for them? And what other features can you get which may be useful in-car and what do you use at home. Apps which use the internet aren't a problem as I have found an app for my phone which can turn it into a wi-fi hotspot. Thanks in advanced for any responses. Also say what tablet you have used so I can decide easier

Also say what tablet you have used so I can decide easier This is my plan with a Nexus 7. I was looking at 7" Galaxy tabs as they have an audio dock attachment that you can just build into the car and leave the audio and power attached. Most useful stuff is the Satnav, and if you don't want to get a data contract you can buy Navigon. It's £40 for europe. Torque2 is good, if you have a bluetooth OBD scanner, as is the speedo apps. Using your phone as a hotspot is a real battery killer in more way than one. Li-On batteries hate heat and the hotter the phone gets the less battery life you get. Not just on that one charge, but every charge. Spotify is always good though, need a subscription and a connection if you want to stream, but you can just download your stuff in the house.

Thanks for the responses, I think I am also going to get a Google Nexus 7 as its good value for money and comes with GPS so I can use for Sat Nav and GPS tracking when I go for a drive to see where I have been/how far (I already do this on my phone for every journey).
The idea about the OBD would be cool but my car predates anything like that so unfortunately won't be able to use that.
Next question is can a memory stick be plugged into them if they have a usb slot as I cannot find much about this, reason I ask is my phone (Nokia N8) can do this but the tablets don't seem to mention this but the 16gb limit could be limiting as over half of that will be filled with music.
And to Novocaine how easy/hard is it to create your own skin for one of these? (Android OS if that changes things) as I'd quite like a custom skin to match my car as I doubt there's anything to match it.

No USB or Memory Card slot, so you're going to need the 16gb one.
