goosegog, is there an aux jack in the Logitech unit? I am *very* tempted by this, and it'd certainly stop me spunking out on a pricey Alpine Unit I'd been eyeing (that'd need serious adjustment to use an aux jack). Really neat idea, and ideal for 'racing' days As for earphones...while driving...I pity the fool who thinks that anything good could ever come of it, it just screams raging stupidity. Why is that? you can ride a motorcycle with earphones in, in fact you cannot pass the motorcycle test without them in!

Two words: Situational awareness.
Having music/radio playing through car speakers is one thing, you aren't acoustically 'boxed in' as you can be with in-ear earphones, ask anyone who has been hit by a car crossing the road...wearing earphones...or riding a bike...with earphones. You don't have the same situational awareness, period.
I'm not saying it's illegal, it isn't (note it is illegal in most of Canada and many US states), I'm saying it's stupid and anyone who things they can react the same as someone without something piping music into their aural canal is kidding themselves.
Being that I've had a number of motorbikes...having an instructor tell you where you're going with periods of quiet is very different to someone listening to Queen at full volume using ear buds who can't hear the ambulance/fire engine etc behind them, or is aware of the road rage driver wanting to pass impatiently/dangerously. Blind corners? Where I grew up with single lane and thick hedgerow, it made sense to 'beep' before coming around a blind corner, either because of a car/horse/child etc coming the other way.
Yes one should use their mirrors (I do), but frankly, I don't have a penchant for wanting to be hideously injured because I didn't have access to all my available senses.
Frankly, if you're trying to justify it and can't see the danger in it, there's not much more to be said. I'm just waiting for the 'but deaf people can drive so what's the harm' reply.
Christ, it's common curse word sense.
Everybody complains at my musical tastes anyway
Perhaps we need to start a thread for you, "Music jonallsorts should have on his IPod?", not sure the music's quality will improve though, suspect it may get worse!

The only problem with running an amp from a aux-phono connector is the signal voltage is far too low to get decent sound quality. Can be sorted with line drivers to increase the signal voltage, but that can introduce other problems.

i'd highly recommend one of these minirigs.co.uk. Designed and built by a guy from a speaker forum i used to frequent. Awesome for the size and long battery life.

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180769415229?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649I had one of these, which I was going to modify. i ran it in the car for about 3 weeks, and it was plenty loud enough with a good battery life and decent-ish sound - I think with higher quality mp3 files it would have been better. My intention was to gut it and tuck the speakers up under the dash and the control unit somewhere out of the way but in reach. unfortunately I dropped it and it bust , £10.99 though, definately worth another punt I think

I'm not justifying anything, I don't even wear them whilst driving, I have a DEHP88RS and some Diamond S500HEX components, id rather get my moneys worth out of them

] Ferg, this is such a good idea and I want to copy it, it'll also work as a stereo for camping trips too. But can't seem to find the dimensions of the unit to check it'll fit in my parcel shelf, any chance you take a tape measure to your one please? Thanks
